We had a good start to the week as our caterpillars had transformed into butterflies over the weekend. The children enjoyed setting them free on Monday afternoon.
The highlight of the week was definitely our trip to Filey on Wednesday. The children all listened so well and behaved impeccably throughout the day. We walked along the seafront, had a talk from the lifeguard and even had time for a paddle in the sea! On the way back all the children had an ice cream as well. Thank you to any parent helpers and thank you to the children for being such a joy to teach!

A slightly shorter week has come to an end.
In DT the children each made their own bunting flag using their design they made last week. A selection of these flags will be displayed in an art exhibition in Guiseley Theatre from Monday 26th June.
In English the children each wrote their own riddle about a sea creature. The quality of the work produced was very high and the children enjoyed trying to guess the answer to each other's riddles.
In maths we have continued learning about how to measure mass in cubes. The children worked in groups to measure the mass of different objects from around the classroom.
We have also had some exciting developments in the metamorphosis of our caterpillars. All the caterpillars have formed their chrysalis and we are now waiting for them to emerge as butterflies.

A hot and sunny week has come to an end!
In science we are learning about metamorphosis; specifically how caterpillars transform into butterflies. We have our own caterpillars in class that we are observing each week and recording their changes in our own butterfly diaries. The caterpillars are already on their way to becoming butterflies and have started forming their chrysalides.
In English we have continued learning about 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley'. We took advantage of the good weather by going out onto the playground to act out parts of the story. The children then each wrote their own recount from the point of view of Stanley.
This week all the children completed the year one phonics screening check. This is a statutory assessment that measures how well children are using their phonics to read. All the children have made such fantastic progress with their reading since the start of the year and I was so impressed with their reading when completing the check.
