Weekly Update 10.3.2023

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

What a snowy end to a busy week in Pear Tree Class! I hope you have found some time to enjoy the snow today.

In English, following their work on 'The Three Little Pigs', the children wrote their own letter to Mummy Pig, explaining what had happened to their house and asking Mummy Pig a lot of questions.

In phonics we are spending time consolidating the level 5 sounds that we have taught so far. On the whole, the children are remembering lots of their phonics sounds and are making really good progress with their reading. Thank you for your continued effort at home to make sure your child is reading their reading book at least three times a week.

In maths we have continued our work on fractions.  At the start of the week, the children learnt how to find half of a quantity, using practical resources to help. Towards the end of the week, we have started to learn about quarters. On Thursday the children enjoyed finding a quarter of shapes and we discussed how there are different ways to quarter a shape

Enjoy the snowy weekend, stay safe and I will see you again on Monday,

Miss Atkinson

Weekly Update 3.3.23

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

We have had another busy week in Pear Tree.

The highlight of this week was definitely World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March. All the children enjoyed designing their own t-shirts with their favourite characters on. We spent the day reading lots of stories, creating our own bookmarks and guessing which character was being described by a written description. Some children from Year 5 visited our class and read with the children

Last week the children each planted their own sunflower seed, which we are going to watch grow over the next few weeks as part of our science lessons. The children are writing their own sunflower diary to record the changes that they observe over time and to learn what a plant needs to grow.

In English, the children wrote an apology letter to the Three Little Pigs from The Big Bad Wolf. In maths we have started to learn about fractions, including how to find half of an object, shape and quantity.

Enjoy the weekend and I will see you again on Monday,

Miss Atkinson

Weekly Update 24.2.23

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

This week has flown by!

In English we have read 'The Three Little Pigs' which is our new class text. The children acted out different parts of the story, sequenced the story and then wrote the story themselves. We have also read lots of different fairy tales.

In maths we have spent the week recapping addition and subtraction and missing number problems.

Thursday 2nd March is World Book Day. Your child needs to come into school in their normal uniform.  All the children will then be given their own t-shirt which they are going to decorate in school time with either their favourite character or their favourite book cover.

Please also remember that our PE days have moved to Monday and Tuesday so please make sure your children are in their PE kits on these days.

See you again on Monday,

Miss Atkinson
