Weekly Update 1.12.23

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

This week has flown by!

In phonics the children have learnt how to read and write words containing the 'ou' digraph.

In maths we have started to learn how to count to 20 and how to represent the teen numbers.

In English we started reading the 'Emperor of Absurdia'. The children made predictions about what they thought would happen in the book, using the clues from the front cover and the blurb. We then went on a word hunt around the classroom looking for key vocabulary from the story.

Last Friday the children enjoyed planting their own daffodil bulb and we will be watching this grow in the spring term.

Thank you so much for all the donations for the Christmas fair. Our class had the most donations out of KS1 so the children are going to have some sweets, provided by the PTA as a reward.

Enjoy the weekend and see you again on Monday,

Miss Atkinson

Weekly Update 24.11.2

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

We have had a busy week in Pear Tree Class!

We wrote descriptions of the 'wild things' island in English. Next week we are going to start reading 'The Emperor of Absurdia' by Chris Riddell.

In maths we have continued learning how to subtract within 10 and have used a range of strategies including counting back on the number line and finding the difference between two numbers.

In art the children created their own painting inspired by Mark Rothko by mixing two primary colours to make secondary colours.

In computing we discussed the different types of IT around the school and how they can be used for different purposes.

Thank you for all the donations for the Christmas Fayre; we nearly ran out of room on the chart we used to track the donations!!

Enjoy the weekend and I'll see you again on Monday.

Weekly Update 16.11.23

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

A shorter week has come to an end.

The children all learnt the story of 'Where the Wild Things Are' off by heart and retold the story in their English books.

In maths we have introduced the concept of subtraction and the children have told subtraction stories using the terms 'first, then and now'. For example, first there were seven pigs but then five ran aware and now there are two left. The children also learnt how to represent subtraction number sentences using practical resources.

We learnt about Paul Klee in our topic lessons and located his birth country of Switzerland on the map using the atlas.

We have also started to learn the songs to go with our Christmas performance!

Just a reminder that homework will be sent out at the end of a week and needs to be completed and returned to school by the following Thursday.

Thank you for all the donations today for the non-uniform day. The children enjoyed placing their coins on our picture of Pudsey Bear.

Enjoy the weekend and see you again on Monday,

Miss Atkinson
