Weekly Update 22.9.23

The children have worked so hard this week. In maths we have learnt how to count forwards and backwards within 10. The children have also learnt how to use the ten frames and double sided counters to find one more than a given number.
In English we have described the character of Katie from 'Katie in London'.
In PE we have started to learn how to roll the ball to a friend with increasing accuracy.
In computing we have continued learning about online safety. The children learnt it is important to ask a grown up before going on the internet and to only go on websites that are appropriate. We practised using the website safesearchkids.com to find information using keywords.
In history we compared London today to London in 1666. A lot of the children were shocked to learn that electricity didn't exist in 1666! The children are looking forward to learning more about The Great Fire of London next week.

Another week has flown by. The children have amazed me with how well they have settled into Year One and how well they are following our new classroom routines; well done Pear Tree!
In maths the children have continued learning about numbers within 10. The children have learnt to represent numbers to 10 in different ways and are beginning to recognise numbers as words as well as numerals and pictures.
In English we started reading 'Katie in London'. The children made predictions about the plot of the story, using the front cover and blurb. This week we have focused on using phonics to spell unfamiliar words.
In PE we are learning how to throw beanbags and balls both underarm and overarm. Just a reminder that the children need to have earrings removed or come to school with earrings taped over; we are unable to put tape or plasters on earrings in school.
We have also started exploring different pencil techniques as part of an introduction to art and the children experimented with blending different colours with varying degrees of pressure.

Welcome to our class blog!
This week has gone by so quickly. The children have already started settling into Year One and are becoming familiar with our new routines.
In maths we have recapped content that the children should be secure on from reception including how to sort objects in different ways and how to count to 10.
The children enjoyed decorating their own fish for a display in the classroom to remind us how we are all different but we all work together and help each other with our learning.
We have also spent a lot of time playing and getting used to being in our new classroom.
This half term the children will be learning about London and The Great Fire of London. Our core text for the first few weeks is ''Katie in London'. Our curriculum overview can be seen on the Pear Class webpage if you would like more detail about each subject.
Thank you all for making the time to come into class on Wednesday morning for 'Meet the Teacher'. It was lovely to see you all. Some general information points:
Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure your child wears a PE kit on these days. Earrings should not be worn on these days and long hair should be tied up.
Please make sure your child brings their book bag to school every day.
We will start setting homework after October half term.
