This week we have continued to learn our songs for the Christmas Performance. The children have been really enthusiastic.  We have also given out all the parts.  The children have all been given their lines to take home.  This week's homework is to practise their lines.

In English we have been planning our diary entries as Florence Nightingale. The children have been thinking about what she would have done on a typical day in Scutari Hospital.

In maths we have been adding pairs of 2 digit numbers.  We have used base 10 and drawn the representation to help us with our working out.

Lime Tree Class were the winners of the 'Aslan Reading Challenge' this week. Please help Cherry Tree to be the winners next week by listening to your child read at home.

Have a fantastic weekend.  I hope those of you going to the Christmas Fayre have a lovely time.

A shorter than usual week this week but still a very busy one.

In English we have been planning and writing a recount of Florence Nightingale's Visit. The children have written some wonderful recounts using time words to help them structure the order of events. It was lovely to read how much they all enjoyed meeting Florence.

In maths we have been finding 10 more and 10 less of numbers.  We have been using a 100 square to help us. We have been looking at how the 'ones' stay the same.  This week's homework is a reinforcement of this important concept and all the children should have brought home a 100 square to help them with this.

This week we have started learning the songs for our Christmas Play 'Prickly Hay'.  Next week the children will be given their parts and will be taking words home to learn.

Unfortunately we were not this week's winners of the 'Aslan Reading Challenge'.  However there has been a big improvement in the amount of reading at home and the scores were very close. Let's keep reading and hopefully Aslan will be ours next week!  Once again, thank you for your support in listening to your child read at home it really does make a big difference to their progress.

I hope the children enjoy their extra day off school tomorrow.

Well the highlight of the week has definitely been our visit from Florence Nightingale. The children had a wonderful morning learning more about this famous nurse and her work.

They worked in groups to sort objects into things that would have been found in either the clean or dirty Scutari Hospital. They acted out being nurses and porters doing some of the jobs that would have been carried out in Scutari Hospital. The porters and nurses both had a great leader to direct them in their work.

They even created a 'Human Timeline' of Florence's life to help give them a better idea of the past and when in history Florence lived.

Next week we will be writing recounts of Florence's visit.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Please remember to read with your child to support our 'Aslan Reading Challenge'. Thank you!
