We are now coming towards the last week of the school year. I really do not know where this year has gone.

This week we have continued our work on instruction writing.  The children have planned out and written instructions on how to make African biscuits. We also acted out our instructions using some kitchen props. The children really enjoyed this.

In maths we have continued revisiting fractions.  This week we have looked at quarters and thirds.

The children have been bringing in their completed African Summer Homework Projects this week.  I have been amazed by the time and effort that they have put in to making their creations.  We will be displaying these in the classroom on Monday after school for you to come and view.  Below is a little sneak preview.

On Thursday afternoon the children went to Yeadon Town Hall to watch the dress rehearsal of Emil and the Detectives.  They all really enjoyed the play saying that the singing was a particular highlight.  I am sure that those of you who went to the evening performance would agree that the children involved put on a great show.

Next week is the last week and by all accounts will be a hot one.  Please remember to put plenty of sunscreen on your children before they come to school and send them with a hat too.

We will be collecting all the reading books in on Monday and book bags.  This is so we can get reading books ready in book bags next week ready for next year. This means that reading books will ready for children to have on the first day back in September.

Thank you for all your support this year. Like the children, I am so ready for a break but also feel sad to be saying goodbye next week to my wonderful class.

Enjoy your weekend!

Remember it is the disco on Wednesday!

The children have had a busy and fun packed week!

On Monday we had our Screen Time Challenge Reward.  The children enjoyed an afternoon of art and crafts. They enjoyed using watercolours, crayons, felt-tips, card and other resources to make their creations. They have also made some delicious African biscuits with Mrs Darley and Mrs Bellwood.  The should all have taken these home yesterday.  They have all been given a copy of the recipe if they want to try to make them again at home.

On Tuesday Mr Ranton came to work with the class using the school's new ipads. The children enjoyed using Scratch to make their own moving sequence.  I was very impressed with their skill at using the program.

On Wednesday we had our Sports Day. We had a great time and the children showed great sportsmanship. Amber were the winners of the Key Stage 1 Sports Day.  Well done to that team!  Well done to everyone!

On Thursday we enjoyed our Open the Book assembly.  This might be the last one as Year 2 will be moving on to Key Stage 2.

On Friday we finished the week with a non-uniform day.  Well done to all those who contributed something yellow for the raffle.

We have more fun things planned for next week including a walk to the Town Hall to watch the dress rehearsal of Emil and the Detectives. The children should all have brought a letter home about this visit.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the sunshine.

The weeks are flying by so quickly towards the end of the school year.

The weather has been very unpredictable this week which meant that Sports Day was postponed.  This did give the children some extra time to work on their races.  They are all looking forward to next Wednesday.

In English we have been writing our own version of the story 'Lila and the Secret of Rain'.  The children have written some amazing stories some of which have been shared with the whole class.

In maths we have been recapping on money and solving problems involving all 4 operations.  We have also continued to work on our times tables.  The children are working really hard on these and I am sure we will have more certificates and badges to give out before the end of the year.

This week the children have continued to enjoy playing the African Drums. These will be in school until the end of the term for them to play.

Remember the children's homework projects will need to be completed by Wednesday 13th July.  They can start to bring them in from Monday 11th July (please do not send them in before this date). More information will follow about when we will be displaying them for you to view.

Have a wonderful weekend. Let's hope the sun comes out again!
