This week we have continued to use the story of 'What the Ladybird Heard' to inspire our writing.  The children have been focusing on the sequence of the story and the key story vocabulary. They have been orally retelling the story to a partner to reinforce the sequence of events. The writing sequence for the week ended with them writing the story in their own words and sharing it with a partner.  Next week we are moving on to poetry using both of the stories we have covered this half term.

In maths we have been recapping on bonds to 10 and using this knowledge to work on bonds to 20.  We have also been solving addition and subtractions within 10 and 20.  Next week we are moving on to bonds to 100.

The children have continued to enjoy their art unit on 'Nature Sculptures'.  This week they have worked in small groups to create a 'Big Build' using leaves, twigs and other items from nature.

Hopefully you have all managed to make an appointment for our Parent's Meetings next week.  I look forward to talking to you then about your child and how they have settled into Year 2.

Happy weekend!

We have ended the week with more sunshine than we started it.

It was lovely to get outside for PE in the sunshine. The children have shown a big improvement in their ball skills already.  This week they have been working on both throwing and defending skills.

In our writing, this week, we have been focusing on the characters from the story 'What the Ladybird Heard'.  The children have been thinking about the main character's feelings and thoughts during different parts of the story.  They have then written some thoughts and feelings bubbles in the first person.  They have written them as the Ladybird and the Robbers (Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh).

In maths we have continued our work on 'Place Value'.  This week we have been using the language ' less than, greater than and equal to' to compare objects and numbers.

The children are really enjoying our Art unit on 'Nature Sculptures'.  This week they have been creating their own individual Nature Sculptures using a range of natural objects including leaves, twigs and pine cones.

This week also saw the first School Council Meeting take place.  Congratulations to  Amelia who is the representative for Cherry Tree Class this year. A big 'Well Done' to all the children who created a poster for this important job.

Appointments are now available for you to book for Parents Meetings.  I look forward to talking to you then about how your child has settled into Year 2.

Enjoy your weekend!

This week has flown by!

The children have continued to use the story 'What the Ladybird Heard' to inspire their writing.  This week we have been writing descriptions of the Ladybird. We have been thinking about using 'expanded noun phrases' to make our writing more descriptive and detailed.

In maths we have been ordering numbers on number lines using intervals of 10's and 1's.  The children have also been estimating where numbers would be on a number line.

As part of our art topic 'Nature Sculptures' Mrs Hand took the children on a nature walk round school. The children collected a range of objects from nature.  They will be using these next week to create a Nature Sculpture. There will be pictures to follow next week.

As part of our computing curriculum we teach the children about online safety.  Please see the attached link for more information on how to keep your children safe online.

Please remember that homework will be sent home on a Friday and needs to be completed and returned by the following Wednesday. Thank you for your support with this.

Enjoy your weekend.
