Next week will be the final week before the May half term holiday. What a quick and busy half term it has been!
In English this week we have been re-telling the story of 'Lila and the Secret of Rain'. The children have mapped out the story and then rewritten it in their own words. I was very impressed with their stories. Next week we will be writing a different version of this story called 'Lila and the Secret of Sun'.
In maths we have been focusing on missing number problems. The children have been learning how using the 'inverse' operation can help us to find the missing numbers in a number sentence. We have also continued our work on Reasoning Problems.
All the children should have brought home a letter about the Skipping Festival this week. In PE we have been busy working on the individual and group skips we will competing in on the day. The children are all really enjoying our skipping sessions. On the day all the children will get the chance to take part in some skipping.
We have continued, and completed, our unit on sculpture this week. We have been looking at the work of Eva Rothschild. The children made their own creations using spaghetti and marshmallows. They were very creative!
Enjoy your weekend.

How lovely it has been to see some sunshine. The children have been so happy to finally be outside without coats.
A slightly shorter week this week but still a very busy one.
In our topic (geography) work this week we have been exploring the countries in Africa. The children have used maps and atlases to find countries and locate on their own blank map.
We have started a new story in English called 'Lila and the Secret of Rain'. The children have worked in pairs to create a story map making sure that they have the correct sequence of events. We have also used some drama techniques to retell the story and think about the main characters thoughts and feelings.
In maths we have been solving a range of 'reasoning' problems. The children have been working with more independence to choose the correct operation and the best strategies to solve each problem. We have talked about the importance of careful reading and finding the key vocabulary to help us.
In PSHE the children have been learning about the importance of good oral hygiene. They have thought about the important things they need to do to have healthy teeth. They should all have brought home a leaflet, toothbrush and small toothpaste today.
Please remember in this hotter weather to apply sun-cream to your child before they come to school and ensure that they have a water bottle (containing water) in school each day.
Have a wonderful weekend in the sun.

It finally feels like summer is on the way!
This week we have continued our topic work about Africa. The children have been recapping on the equator and looking at which African countries are closer to it.
In English we have been using the story 'Handa's Surprise' to inspire some poetry writing. We tasted some of Handa's fruits and collected a bank of adjectives to use in our poetry. We then used some of these to write our own 'List Poem'.
In maths we have continued our unit of work on money. We have been comparing and ordering money and amounts using the less than, greater than and equal to symbols. We have also been using coins to find different ways of making one pound.
Our Art this week has been inspired by the famous sculptor Barbara Hepworth. We worked in groups, using a range of cardboard boxes, to create our own abstract sculptures of people. We had to think carefully about the size of box chosen depending on which part of the body it was being used for. The children worked really well as a group and produced some great results.
Let's hope the weather is kind to us over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
Enjoy, and see you on Tuesday.
