Christmas is getting closer and the children are all very excited for next week's Christmas Performance of 'Hey Ewe'. Please remember to get your tickets if you have not already done so.
In between rehearsals we have continued to keep up with all our other work as best we can!
In English we have been writing a letter (short note) to Lily, Nellie Spindler's sister. Before Nellie Spindler died she sent her sister a Weeping Angel Necklace. We have been writing as Nellie imagining what she may have written in her letter with the necklace. I have been very impressed with the children's work and the amount of detail they have included linked with our history topic.
In maths we have continued our work on subtraction both crossing and not crossing the tens. We have also been doing some end of term assessments.
Next week will be a very busy week! All the children (wearing costumes) should have brought a note home today asking that they bring their PE tops and shorts to school for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to wear underneath their costumes. If you could send them in to school in a bag that would be very helpful.
Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our performances on Tuesday or Wednesday.

This week has whizzed by!
We are now well into our preparations for the Key Stage 1 Christmas Performance 'Hey Ewe'. The children all have their lines to learn. As always, your help in getting children to learn these is much appreciated.
In maths we have continued our work on subtraction. We have been subtracting a single digit from a 2 digit number both crossing and not crossing the tens.
In English we have have been writing our diaries as Florence Nightingale. I was very impressed with the finished results and especially the details about Florence's work at Scutari Hospital. Next week we are focusing our writing on Nellie Spindler.
In our History topic this week we have been learning about Mary Seacole. We have talked about some similarities and differences between her and Florence Nightingale and also Nellie Spindler.
Tomorrow is our Christmas Fair. Thank you for all you donations. Fingers crossed that we win the treat!
Have a wonderful weekend.

A slightly shorter week for the children this week but we have managed to pack lots of things in.
In English we have using drama to act out some of the jobs that Florence Nightingale did at Scutari Hospital. This was in preparation for planning and writing a diary entry as her. We will be continuing with this work next week.
In maths we have been focusing on subtraction. We have been subtracting a single digit from a multiple of 10. The children have been using their knowledge of bonds to 10 to help them. We have also been subtracting a single digit from a 2 digit number crossing the tens. We have been looking at different ways to work out the answers.
In our topic work we have been talking about why Florence Nightingale has more Memorials than Nellie Spindler. The children have been designing their own Memorial for Nellie. Next week we will be learning about another famous nurse, Mary Seacole.
The preparations for our Christmas Play have started... The children have shown real enthusiasm when learning the songs for our production. I have been very impressed with their singing and how quickly they have learnt the songs. They should all have taken their lines for the play home tonight and this week's homework is to start practising these lines. Your support in helping them to learn their lines is much appreciated.
Enjoy your longer weekend!
