A busy first full week back!

This week as part of our topic 'Superheroes' we have been learning about Grace Darling.  We have been finding our about why she is famous and how her bravery made her a 'real-life' superhero.

In English we have been using the book 'Traction Man' to inspire our writing.  The children have written some amazing descriptions of him.  They have been remembering to use expanded noun phrases, conjunctions and different types of sentences in their writing.

In maths we have started our unit of work on multiplication and division.  We have been looking at making equal groups and what the 'X' symbol means.

Our Art this half term is all about portraits.  This week we have been looking at the work of Picasso.  The children have experimented with happy and sad colours.  Next week they will be using these colours to create their own Picasso inspired portrait.

This week we have seen the return of 'Aslan'.  Well done to all the children who have been reading at home at least 3 times each week. Let's see if we can hold on to him for another week!

Enjoy your weekend.

The children in Cherry Tree Class have made a great start to 2023!

Our topic for this half term is 'Superheroes'. We started our topic by talking about what a superhero is. The children have also been thinking about the difference between real-life and fictional superheroes.

In English we are using inspiration from our topic for our writing.  This week we have been looking at 'Elastigirl' from the Incredibles. We have been creating word banks of her powers, personality and appearance to help us with our description writing. The children have been making sure that their writing includes all the key things from our Year 2 writing 'MUST DO' list.  They have enjoyed watching some clips of this superhero showing off her incredible stretchy skills.

In maths we have been revisiting addition and subtraction.  Next week we will be starting our unit of work on Multiplication and Division. Any work at home you can do counting in 2's, 5's and 10's would be extremely helpful.

The Curriculum Overview for this term has been added to the class page. This will give you more details of what the children will be learning in all curriculum areas this term.

The 'Aslan' Reading Challenge will continue this term.  Your continued support in listening to your child read at home, at least 3 times a week, is really needed and much appreciated.  Please remember little and often is the key

Enjoy your weekend and a belated 'Happy New Year' to you all!
