I enjoyed listening to the different ways that the children celebrated the King's Coronation weekend.  They all seemed to have enjoyed their extra long weekend.

This week we have had a big focus on reading.  The children have completed some statutory reading assessments and have all tired really hard.  Well done to them all!

In maths we are continuing to recap on a variety of topics.  We have been recapping on telling the time in 15 minute intervals.  Most of the children do find this quite tricky especially as they so rarely see analogue clocks.  Any work at home working on time on O'clock, Half Past, Quarter Past and a Quarter to the hour would be much appreciated.

We have still been using the story of 'The Pirates Next Door' to inspire our writing. We have been focusing on writing detailed and grammatically correct sentences.

The children have taken part in lots of physical activity this week.  They have had the dance coach from Leeds Rhinos, the rugby coach from Leeds Rhinos and have been running a mini-marathon round the school grounds.

Enjoy your weekend.

A short but very busy week!

We have continued our work on our topic 'Message in a Bottle'.  We have been learning about the Oceans of the World.  We have used maps and atlases to see where they are and which countries and continents they separate.

In English we have continued to use our story about the Jolley Rodgers Pirate family.  The children have been writing sentences about them using all our Year 2 conjunctions. Next week we will continue to work on our recount of an imaginary day with Jim Lad at Rufford Park School.

In Maths we have been recapping on number bonds to 100, reading scales, counting coins and solving a range of arithmetic number sentences.

Today we prepared for the King's Coronation on Saturday completing some 'Coronation' themed activities.

Enjoy yet another, long weekend and any Coronation Celebrations you may be planning to have.

See you Tuesday!

The first two weeks back have been very busy and productive. The children have enjoyed being back with their friends again!

We have started our new topic 'Message in a Bottle'.  The children have been learning about Christopher Columbus and Captain James Cook.  We have been learning about the countries that they discovered and some of the good and bad things about these discoveries. The children have also been using maps and atlases to find the continents of the World.

In English we have been using the story of 'The Pirates Next Door' to inspire our writing.  We have written recounts of the day the Jolley Rodgers Family arrived.  We have also written letters to the Town Hall giving the reasons why the pirates should be made to leave Dull-on-Sea.

In maths we have had a real focus on our Times Tables and quick recall of them. We have been working on our recall of multiplication and division facts for our 2's, 5's and 10's.  Your support in practising these at home is much appreciated!

We have had a real sporty return to school.  On a Thursday, this half term, we  have a dance coach from Leeds Rhinos. The children had a great time last week.  On a Friday we are also having some Rugby taster sessions, again from Leeds Rhinos.  Last week the children were working on their ball skills, getting used to the shape and feel of a rugby ball.

Enjoy your bank holiday weekend.  Let's hope the weather begins to warm up a little.
