Cherry Tree Blog 20.11.20

Mrs Moore (f.moore) on: Cherry Tree Class Blog 2020-2021

Another busy week in Cherry Tree Class!

The children have loved learning more about Florence Nightingale and her time at Scutari Hospital.  This week we have been learning more about how Scutari hospital changed after her time there.

In English we have been following and writing instructions.  The children enjoyed making Florence Nightingale Lamps and soon realised how important it is to listen to the instructions carefully.

In maths we have been learning about money.  We have been reminding ourselves about the coins and notes that we have and their value.  Any extra work on recognising coins and notes would be much appreciated.

We had great fun this afternoon on the new Trim Trail.  The children showed great skill and agility and had a fantastic time!

It has been another very busy week in school.

In maths we have been looking at different ways of adding and subtracting numbers.  We have been working on our mental skills to help us add and subtract numbers to 10 and 20 quickly and without using equipment or our fingers!

In English we have been looking at Instructions.  We have been finding out about what we need for a good set of instructions and how important it is that they are in order.  The children have been ordering instructions and will be writing some of their own next week.

Yesterday we had a very special visitor in school. Florence Nightingale came for the morning and we all had great fun learning more about her and her important work.   The children acted out being nurses and porters working in Scutari Hospital.  They worked hard to scrub floors, make beds and look after the wounded soldiers. Please look at our highlights page for more photos.

We are all looking forward to learning more about her next week.

Welcome to our first class blog!  The children have all made a great start to the half term. They have been working hard and trying their best.

This week we have started our new topic 'Fighting Fit'.  We have enjoyed finding out about Florence Nightingale and beginning to learn about why she is famous. The children have been writing descriptions of themselves and Florence.  They have been thinking about her appearance and her personality.

In maths we have been solving addition and subtraction problems using jottings and our mental skills. We have been continuing to work on our number bonds to 100.

We will be finding out more about Florence Nightingale ...
