Oak Tree Class 2021-2022

Weekly Update 27/05/22

Mr Ranton (r.ranton) on: Oak Tree Class 2021-2022

In Science this week, we continued looking at the planets in our Solar System. After last week's fact finding lesson, we discussed the planet sizes using food as a representation. After agreeing which food represented which planet, we moved outside and discussed the planets positions. The pupils placed the 'planets' along the playground from our hula-hoop sun before I put the planets in their correct position, which provided some good consolidation.

In PE, the pupils finished off the half-term by taking part in a mini-Olympics. In house groups, the pupils took part in a sprint race, long jump, javelin throw and tag wrestling. All the pupils did really well and tried their best in all the events. The winning house (by 3 points) was Amber.

Enjoy your breaks and any celebrations you may be having for the Queen's Jubilee.

In PE, on Wednesday, the pupils worked really well on their long-jump and triple-jump technique, which will come in handy for our mini-Olympic games we are having, in PE, next week. The pupils will have an opportunity to bring all the skills they have been practicing over the half-term and put them into the tournament.

Science has brought up some really interesting questions and discussions regarding our topic: Space. Pupils have learnt some interesting facts about the planets and are beginning to learn their order in our Solar System.

The pupils have published their myths this week. They have worked really hard on editing and improving them and I have enjoyed reading through each one and providing feedback.

In Maths, the pupils have enjoyed using protractors to measure angles. This is the first time the pupils have used protractors and have done really well, positioning them correctly and using the correct scale to measure the given angles.

In P.E. on a Wednesday, the class have been working on one discipline from the Ancient Greek pentathlon. This week was javelin. The pupils worked well (and safely) on their technique before aiming to get their javelins through specific targets. During Thursday's Netball P.E. session, we worked on court positions, trying to provide more space and movement for teams.

I think the bank holidays maybe to blame, but it feels strange to only have two weeks left of this half term. Hopefully the weather continues to improve.
