Weekly Update 3.12.2021

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

We have started to get into the Christmas spirit this week in Pear Class. The children have been practising our Christmas Play and are looking forward to showing you all their hard work on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

As well as practising our singing, dancing and acting, we have been learning about money in maths. The children have enjoyed playing shops in the classroom and should be able to recognise and tell you the value of different coins and notes.

In English the children planned how they would continue the story of 'The Tunnel' by Anthony Browne and then every child had a go at independently writing the end of the story. I am so impressed with the progress that every single child has made with their writing since the beginning of September and they should be very proud of themselves for this.

Thank you so much for all your donations for the Christmas Fair. Our class contributed the most jars and bottles, out of Key Stage One, so as a reward the children will be having a movie afternoon next week! A big thank you for also supporting your child in completing their weekly class homework, practising their spellings and reading at home - all this support is having a big positive impact on the children's progress.

Have a good weekend and I will see you on Monday!

Weekly Update 18.11.2021

Another busy week has come to an end in Pear Class.

The week started with Odd Socks Day for Anti-Bullying Week and we had some important conversations about respecting other people's differences. We have also spoken a lot about what bullying is and what to do if you are being bullied or know someone who is being bullied.

We have started learning about our new class book; 'Where the Wild Things Are'. We have acted out parts of the book in small groups and spoken about how different characters may feel in the book. The children have also sequenced events from the book, in preparation for re-writing the story next week.

The children have enjoyed their non-uniform day today and raising money for Children in Need. Thank you for your support from home. Please see our photo below!

Have a lovely weekend and remember not to come to school tomorrow as it's a Training Day!

We have had another week full of learning in Pear Class!

In English the children have continued learning about he book 'The Emperor of Absurdia'.We have been thinking more about fantasy settings and describing the setting in the story.  The children sequenced pictures from the story and began to verbally retell some of the story to a partner.

In maths we have started learning about subtraction. We have learnt that subtraction can mean take away and have been solving subtraction sums using counters, ten frames and part-whole models. Next week the children will be learning about subtraction as counting back and finding the difference.

In art we have been looking at the work of  'Wassily Kandinsky'.  We used bright colours to produce some work in his style. Please take a look at the picture below. All the children hugely enjoyed this and produced some very high quality work.

Finally, a reminder that Monday is Odd Socks Day in celebration of Anti-Bullying Week. Please make sure that your child comes to school wearing odd socks - no money is needed!

Enjoy your weekend,

Miss Atkinson
