Weekly Update 4.3.2022

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

Pear Class have quickly settled back into our school routines after a week off.

In English, we have started learning about Julia Donaldson's 'Smartest Giant in Town'. This week we have focused on learning about the structure of the story and describing George the Giant.

It was lovely to see all the children dressed up yesterday for World Book Day and their costumes looked amazing. All the children enjoyed showing off their costumes in a parade with nursery, reception and the rest of key stage one. Throughout the rest of the day we read lots of stories, talked about our favourite books and wrote a book review. Our homework this week is also book-themed and the children have to design a cover for their favourite book.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and will see you again on Monday!

Weekly Update 18.2.2022

We have had a fantastic final week of half-term in Pear Class.

In English the children used their learning from the previous week to independently write their own set of instruction explaining how to make a friendship bracelet. I have seen massive progress in all the children's writing and they should be very proud of themselves for this.

In maths we have spent the week recapping our knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes. The children went on a shape hunt around the classroom to see what shapes they could find.

We have also done a lot of DT this week. First. the children practised making a slider. Then the children chose a scene from the story of 'Cinderella' and designed their own moving picture. Finally the children made their own Cinderella moving picture. All the children enjoyed the design process and they created some very imaginative work!

Thank you for all your support this half-term and I hope you all have a wonderful week away from school.

See you again on Monday 28th February!

Weekly Update 11.2.2022

Another busy week has come to an end in Pear Class!

In maths we have been learning about how to measure length and height, using non-standard units of measurement and centimetres. Today the children made their own stick people pictures using wool and made sure to measure the arms, legs and body. Take a look at our photos below.

In English the children have completed their instructions on how to get Cinderella ready for the ball. I was very impressed with all the children's writing and they did so well at writing in a different format.

It was lovely to see you all on Parents' Evening and I hope you have a good weekend,

Miss Atkinson
