Weekly Update 8.10.2021

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

What an exciting end to the week we have had in Pear Class!

Yesterday, the children took part in a Great Fire of London workshop. They spent all morning creating and painting their own London houses. In the afternoon the houses were set up to represent London, before they were set on fire!

The children hugely enjoyed the day and the experience really brought their learning to life. All the children had a turn at wafting the flames or trying to put the fire out with water (from a safe distance!) Take a look at the photos below.

Next week we are going to carry on learning about The Great Fire of London and the children are going to have a go at writing a diary from Samuel Pepys's point of view.

Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to meeting with you next week during parent's evening on Tuesday 12th October and Wednesday 13th October.

Weekly Update 1.10.2021

Pear class have enjoyed another week in school.

This week the children have finished their London skyline paintings and they are up on the wall in our classroom. Take a look at them below!

Pear Class London Skyline

In maths the children have been learning how to compare numbers, using the language of 'greater than' and 'less than'. The children have been building towers to represent numbers and have compared which tower has more and less blocks.

We have continued reading 'Katie in London' and the children made their own storyboards to show what happened in the story, before learning to verbally retell the story in their own words.

I have also sent spellings home with the children today, to practise at home. We will not be doing a formal spelling test in school but these spellings link to the phonics sounds that we have learnt this week. Practising these at home will be a massive help to your child's writing.

Now that the weather has turned colder please make sure that you send your child to school with a warm, waterproof coat. Please also make sure that your child is coming into school wearing their PE kit on Monday and Tuesday.

School Council votes will take place on Wednesday 13th October.  If your child is interested in applying to be our class representative they should have taken a letter home with the information needed.

I hope you enjoy the weekend (despite the rainy forecast)!

Weekly Update 24.9.2021

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

We have had another busy week in Pear Class! We have continued learning about the Great Fire of London. The children learnt about what events happened during the Great Fire and can talk about why the fire spread so quickly. The children have also started painting their own London pictures and in next week's blog I will be hopefully be able to share photos of their finished work.

The children have enjoyed attending our Key Stage Special Mention assemblies where I choose a Reader of the Week and a Special Mention from Pear Class. Please continue reading with your child at home to give them the opportunity to be Reader of the Week.

Enjoy your weekend and I look forward to seeing you all next week!
