Phew! So we have made it to the Easter break. Well done to all the children and parents for getting through such a strange 6 weeks.

I am sure you are all looking forward to a lovely relaxing Easter with your children. Two weeks can be quite a long time and so if you feel like doing some art work, please take a look at the Young Artists Summer Show. We would love for our families to get involved and submit their fantastic work. One of our children has already submitted a few excellent pieces of his own work and I know that we definitely have a few budding artists in Pear Tree Class. For more information on how to get involved please visit

The children have had a very happy day today for our last day, dressed up in clothes that make them happy. Miss Peacock and Mrs Connolly also had a bit of fun when we introduced an April Fools day joke. After play time all of our chairs disappeared! The funny thing was that none of the adults seemed to notice, however the children were very quick (and loud) at letting us know!

Have a look below at our photo from today (we took it before PE when many costumes had to be put aside)

We would like to wish all our families a very happy Easter and we look forward to seeing you all back in two weeks time.

Take care and have fun.

From Mrs Connolly, Miss Peacock and Miss Birks.

What a great week we have had in school! The children have been wonderful and we have even had compliments from other staff members about how well behaved and sensible we have been around school. Very well done Pear Tree Class!

This week in Maths we have been doing lots of work on addition and subtraction. We have been testing different ways to work out number problems and using different resources to help us. We needed to be careful to check if it was + or - because that changes the way that we use the resources.

In English we were excited to learn that the 3 Little Pigs had responded to our apology letters for the wolf. The pigs had written a letter to us to thank us for our hard work and excellent writing. The pigs had decided to write an alternative version of our story with the wolf as a good character. We spent some time predicting what might be in their story and we even read each others work to see what other people had predicted. Then we read their alternative story which was The Three Horrid Pigs and The Big Friendly Wolf.

Well done to all Pear Tree children for another fantastic week of learning!

See you next week for a fun filled week of learning before our well deserved Easter break.

Mrs Connolly, Miss Peacock and Miss Birks

Hello again,

It has been another lovely busy week.

This week in maths we have been focusing on counting in multiples. It would be great if you could practise this skill at home. Children in Year 1 need to be able to count forwards and backwards in multiples of 2, 5 and 10. The majority of children in class need to practise being fluent in this, especially above 20. We count up to 50 in 2's and up to 100 in 5's and 10's. If your child is very confident with this, they can practise continuing from a given number or counting in 2's 5's or 10's from another number - for example counting in 10s from 4.

In English we have been very excited to hear that the wolf (from the 3 little pigs) visited Mrs Connolly's house and gave the children some writing to do. We were really happy to help the wolf out and we hope that our letters to the 3 little pigs mean that they know how sorry the wolf is for his actions.

Have a great weekend and we look forward to another jam packed week of learning next week.

Mrs Connolly, Miss Peacock and Miss Birks.

Hello everyone,

We have had a great first week back at school. We have been learning about weight and mass in maths and have started the Three Little Pigs story in English.

I am sure that the children are very tired (as we are) so I hope they have an enjoyable and restful weekend.

Next week we will be continuing our work on The Three Little Pigs and we will be looking at counting in multiples for maths.

If you need to get in touch regarding anything about your child in class, please feel free to send an email to pear@ruffordparkprimary.org.uk.

Take care

Mrs Connolly
