Weekly Update 27.5.22

K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Hello everyone!

We have made it to the end of another busy half term and the children have had a wonderful week getting ready for the Queen's Jubilee. We have spent this morning decorating a red, white and blue Jubilee themed biscuit as well as creating Union Jack bunting to decorate our classroom with.

Earlier in the week, we had a visit from Tempus Fugit who transported us through time to the lands of Ancient Egypt and told us some fantastic information relating to our topic. We even ended it with an Egyptian themed dance!

On Thursday, Willow Tree Class visited Yeadon Library and we had a brilliant time looking at all the books on offer and choosing 5 books to bring back to school to read in class.

The children have continued to make lots of progress and I am excited to see where our final half term leads us as we get ready to enter a new school year in September.

For homework over the next half term, we will be starting another research project but this time it will be all about Ancient Egypt. Information about the project has been sent home today but can also be found here.

Have a restful week off and thank you for all the hard work this half term,

Miss Simms

Weekly Update 21.5.22

Hello everyone,

As we approach the end of this half term (and get ever closer to the end of the school year!), it is clear to see just how much progress the children have made since September!

This week has been an extremely busy one with lots of learning about Time taking place in maths and using adjectives and adverbs to create Superstar sentences in English.

The children have also had a chance to practise their painting skills by creating a watercolour sunset ready for our Ancient Egypt artwork! Pictures of these will be on on the Willow Tree class page once they are all finished.

Homework will be sent home tonight and is due back on Wednesday.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Simms

Weekly Update 13.5.22

Hello everyone,

The children have excelled themselves this week as we have begun some new topics in our learning.

In maths, the children have been practising telling the time to o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to and we have begun looking at telling the time in 5 minute increments as well as using Roman numerals.

In English, we have been looking at the amazing discovery of Tutankhamun by Howard Carter and have used this excavation as the basis of our writing focus on diary entries.

In science, the children have continued their learning about forces and magnets and took part in a Scrapyard Challenge to identify magnetic and non-magnetic materials.

Homework will be sent home tonight and is due back in on Wednesday. We now change reading books on a Thursday but please continue to make sure your child brings their reading record in everyday. We have been really impressed with how enthusiastic the children have been to read in school and we hope that this continues, especially with our upcoming trip to Yeadon Library.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Simms
