Weekly Update 16.9.22

K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Hello everyone!

We have had another great week in Willow Tree Class! The children have really settled into their new learning routines and have tried extremely hard during all their lessons.

In maths, we have continued looking at place value and advanced to hundreds, tens and ones. Next week, we will be looking at finding 10 and 100 more or less than a number.

In PE, we started our topic of Lacrosse and the children worked amazingly in groups to practise throwing and catching the ball.

In English, we have continued to practise our Year 2 skills so that we are ready to begin our new writing topic of recounts next week.

A few polite reminders:

Children with earrings need to take these out or cover them up for PE. Those who do not will be unable to take part due to safety reasons (if your child cannot take their earrings out then please provide them with tape or plasters).

Reading records should be brought in to school everyday so that we can keep track of how often children are reading at home.

Unless it is a PE day, children should come to school with a school jumper and black shoes. Please ensure all uniform is labelled.

Have a restful weekend,

Miss Simms

Weekly Update 9.9.22

Hello everyone!

What a brilliant start to the new school year we have had in Willow Tree Class! The children have done so well adjusting to the new routines and ways of life in Key Stage 2 and should be very proud of themselves.

This week in English we have recapped some of our skills from Year 2, including capital letters and full stops, handwriting and spellings. In maths, we have started our learning on Place Value and looked at representing numbers to 100 using Base 10. In Guided Reading, we have looked at our new book "The Thieves of Ostia" and made some excellent predictions about what we think will happen.

We have worked together to create our classroom rules and targets and have done some fantastic work on keeping safe in school.

Next week, we will be starting our Class Reading Challenge and children who have read at home on 5 days of the week will receive a prize on Friday (please make a note of this in their reading record). Please make sure your child is reading as much as possible as this will be a huge benefit to their learning journey in Year 3.

Homework will begin next week but children should still make sure to bring their Reading Record in everyday. We have also sent home TT Rockstars logins and these can be found inside your child's Reading Record.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Simms

Hello everyone,

What a fantastic year we have had in Willow Tree Class! The children have worked so hard and should be very proud of themselves.

It's been a busy but unforgettable final week! Year 3 had a fantastic day out at Leeds City Museum and Art Gallery! We took part in a mummification workshop as part of our Ancient Egypt topic and met Nesyamun, a 3,000-year-old mummy. We also practised our sketching skills at Leeds Art Gallery!

The children coped admirably with the heat on Monday and Tuesday and really impressed our visitor from Ofsted.

Overall, it's been another brilliant year of learning - full of exciting trips and visitors - and the children have made fantastic progress. Thank you for all the superb support and encouragement you have delivered from home since September, particularly the regular home reading which has such a huge impact.

I would also like to say a huge thank you to all of you for your generosity with your kind gifts and words and I hope you have a lovely and relaxing summer!

Best wishes,

Miss Simms
