Weekly Update 15.7.22

K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Hello everyone!

The children have had a fantastic week learning lots of new information about Ancient Egypt through the project presentations! It is clear that the children have worked really hard on these and each project has showcased lots of different skills.

On Wednesday, the whole of Rufford Park Primary had their transition day and the children in Willow Tree came back feeling very excited and enthusiastic about the new academic year!

There is no homework being sent out this week but, as always, please keep practising times tables so that children are ready for the TT Awards Test on Thursday.

On Monday 18th July, we will begin collecting Reading Records and books to get them prepared for September. Please can children make every effort to remember to bring these in on Monday as well as any school library books they may have at home.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Simms

Weekly Update 8.7.22

K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Hello everyone!

We have had a very exciting week in Willow Tree with lots of different activities taking place in our lessons.

In maths, we have continued to learn about 2D and 3D shapes and worked together in teams to construct 3D shapes as accurately as we could using spaghetti, marshmallows and tape! The children were able to identify vertices, edges, faces and angles in each of the shapes.

In English, we have been writing poems to describe ourselves and our school using similes. The children then performed their creations to the rest of the class.

In topic, we have been learning about the process of mummification and the children worked in partners to create a person out of an apple which we have covered in salt to dehydrate and mummify.

On Wednesday, the whole of Rufford Park Primary School took part in a Sports Day with KS2 completing their events in the afternoon. The children did fantastically and it was great to see how supportive they were of the other children. Pictures from the day can be found on the class page here.

For PE this morning, the children in Willow Tree joined with some of the children in Cedar Tree and Beech Tree in 2 big rounders games and they all played brilliantly together.

The Ancient Egypt projects are due in on Monday - the ones I have seen so far look great! Any PowerPoints need to be emailed to the class email address in time for Monday morning.

Have a lovely weekend!

Weekly Update 1.7.22

K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Good afternoon everyone,

We are quickly approaching the end of the school year but the children in Willow Tree continue to challenge themselves to achieve their very best. Well done!

In maths, we have been looking at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. In science, we have looked at how reflections are made and discussed both the positive and negative effects of UV light. In English, we have started our new writing topic of poetry and the children have enjoyed reading various poems and identifying the rhythm and beat in each one.

With sports day being cancelled this week due to the weather, we look forward to next Wednesday afternoon when the children will take part in their various races.

Homework for the week is to continue practising for the Times Tables Awards tests each Thursday and to keep working on the Ancient Egyptian project due on the 11th of July.

Spellings for the week are as follows: (words ending with ‘ture’): lecture, literature, fracture, miniature, mixture, puncture, sculpture, signature, temperature, texture

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Simms
