Cedar Week 6 w/e 14.7.23 Summer 2

Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class

Hello

Yet another busy but less sunny week. Thank you for all of you that 'braved' the rain and were able to cheer the children on at Sports Day. Despite the rain affected schedule, the children are still talking about the fun that they had. It was great to see the Rufford Park spirit on display with everyone supporting each other no matter which house or class they belonged to.

In English, we have been learning about poetry and the children are mid way through composing their own Haiku poems.

Next week, the children will start to bring home their workbooks from this year so they can share the success and progress they have made with you. Year 4s will bring home their dictionaries that the Rotary Club donated to them last year - they have been a great resource to support the children in their ambitious word choices this year.

Please can all school reading books be returned as early as possible next week - this allows school time to check the condition of the resources and time to ensure that your child receives their correctly matched reading books in September. Thank you for your support with this.

In Maths, Year 3 are finishing their unit on statistics - bar charts, tally charts etc and Year 4 are finishing their unit on position - translating shapes on charts and using line graphs.

Today, your child will have brought home their end of year report - we hope you enjoy sharing the success your child has had this year and if you have any queries please don't hesitate to contact school.

Finally, I would like to say a huge thank you and well done to all of the children on how they have approached the transition to their classes for next year. We have had lots of fun discussions about what next academic year might bring for them.

Have a lovely weekend

Mr Dring

Week 5 Summer 2 Cedar w/e 07.07.23

Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class

Hello

This week we have been writing our conclusions to our scientific investigations into the transport of water through plants - using food colouring. Our final piece of historical fiction have been written up and 'published.' We have some future authors amongst us in Cedar class and all of the children have really shown the progress they have made in their writing skills this year.

We all loved exploring coordinates in Maths outside this week and I was so proud of the teamwork and collaborative skills the children used to solve the various maths challenges linked to their learning. Well done children.

Towards the end of the week, we have been researching inspirational leaders and creating our own presentations as part of our R.E unit.

Have a fun weekend

Cedar Week 4 Summer 2 w.e 30.06.23

Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class

Hello

The children have endeavoured to complete their historical fiction adventure stories this week and I am so proud of their efforts. They will soon be writing them up into their final piece. They have written an alternative ending one of the class texts 'Stone Age Boy.'

You may have seen our Science experiments regarding the transportation of water in plants in and around the classroom and outdoor area. We are all very excited to observe the results. We are planning to taste a range of tomatoes in Design Technology later today using a range of senses and ambitious vocabulary to describe the range of different tomato based products.

Please keep checking Mr Cooke's weekly newsletter and the School Jotter messaging system for school wide information as these will provide you with the dates for e.g. children's reports, transition details/timings and Sports Day/s. The Year 4 results of the Department for Education Multiplication Check will be included with your child's report when available.

Have a lovely weekend

Cedar Wk 3 Summer 2 w.e 23.06.23

Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class

Hello

An exciting week this week in Cedar class. We have finished our carnival themed masks ready for the Yeadon Art Exhibition and the children used their British Values of democracy (as discussed in Mr Cooke's recent assembly) to vote on their favourite masks to be displayed.

Later this week, the children will be bringing home their own grown sunflowers from our plant unit in Science. If your child doesn't bring theirs home yet it will be because we are replanting some that failed initially to grow. The children have been enthralled with the plants' progress over the last few weeks.

I am so proud of the children who have shown the skills they have learnt, since September, in their Summer term NFER assessments (Maths and Reading). They are also currently midway through writing an historical fiction story linked to our Stone Age to Iron Age topic.

Finally, in P.E the children are showing how skilled they can be at rounders!

Have a good weekend

Mr Dring

Week 2 Summer 2 Cedar Class w/e 16.06.23

Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class

Hello

A busy second week whilst trying to stay cool in the Summer heat. Where possible, we endeavour to continue outdoor learning which enhances your child's learning experiences so we continue to ask that you send your child with sun hats (when appropriate) and if you want them to reapply their sun cream during the school day that you remind your child where it is in their belongings. Thank you.

In English, we have been focussing on writing direct speech using inverted commas in preparation for writing our own short adventure stories linked to our Stone Age to Iron Age topic.

In Maths, we have been trying to master reading both digital and analogue clocks. We are so proud of our Year 4 children who have now completed their statutory Department for Education Multiplication Check tests online. As this is not a school assessment we have no access to their results and we await their results that the government will release to us as part of their national release of data in the near future.

This week we welcomed some parent visitors who reiterated to the children the importance of staying safe online. This may lead to some of your children asking you further questions. Please take some time to discuss this with your children about what they are accessing online. Below are some links that may help you with this matter. Thank you.
