Cedar Week 3 w.e 08.03.24 Spring 2
Mr Dring (p.dring) on: Cedar Tree Class
Hello
Wow, what a week. We've been busy finalising our letter to convince non-Fairtrade farmers of the benefits of joining a Fairtrade scheme for them and their families, finished our Fraction units and moved onto Yr 3 mass (g.kg) Yr 4 decimals and exploring Light in our Science unit. World Book Day was great too - a real range of inspirational characters and the children enjoyed meeting a 'real' author and had endless questions for him!
Year 3 took the opportunity on Tuesday and Wednesday to hone and further develop their writing and mathematical skills in the absence of Year 4 children.
Our Year 4 children made us very proud in everything they achieved on our residential and a sample of the many photos are in the link below. Thank you to everyone who has passed on their appreciation to myself but also to Mrs Harris, Mr Kyriacou, Miss Suggitt and Mrs Riches - all of who's voluntary attendance made sure this residential could go ahead.
Remember it is Parents' Evening next Monday and Wednesday - please contact the office to book your slot if you are struggling with the online links at all. We only get 10 minutes together so please be aware if an appointment looks like it will overrun we will arrange a further appointment another time to continue.
Have a wonderful weekend including a happy Mothers' Day too.

Hello
A wonderful week of learning, with formal letter writing in English, equivalent Yr3 and Yr4 fractions in Maths, Yr5 Oliver singing practice in Music, inference reading skills in whole class reading and the start of our Light unit in Science. The children also met a modern day explorer James Ketchell on Wednesday.
Please remember it is World Book Day next Thursday (7th March) and next Monday 4th Cedar class have an 'extra' PE lesson for skipping practice due to Year 4 missing out on the taught lesson on Wednesday whilst at residential.
I wish you a happy, safe and fun weekend.
Regards
Mr Dring

Hello
Wow, despite being a shorter week for the children it has been no less busy. We have been learning about the layout of formal letters in English, fraction equivalence in Year 3 and 4 in Maths and all things Fairtrade in Geography as part of our India unit (See photos below of them 'in action'). As ever, I am bowled over with the children's enthusiasm for their learning and how they always put in their full effort into every subject - even if it's not their favourite. We are looking forward to our explorer visitor next week who can speak to us about his exploits climbing Mount Everest.
Year 4 - thank to everyone for returning the final medical forms. Just a reminder that children will need to bring a packed lunch for the Tuesday (Day 1) with them to school. If your child needs one providing through the Free School Meals scheme, please let us know as soon as possible to allow the kitchen to order and prepare them for us. Thank you.
Please have a fun weekend

Week 5 Cedar class Spring 1 w.e 09.02.24

Hello
A great week of learning, largely linked around our Design Technology unit of bread making. The children were really enthused to apply their knowledge of Warburtons and bread making to their own flavours of bread. We may have some future Hestons as they chose to mix both sweet and savoury flavours together. We were able to also link it to our knowledge of Science gases - carbon dioxide and our living things - yeast. See some photos linked below.
This week as a whole school and then in class too we have focused on how we can stay safe whilst online. Remember there are permanent links for parent support on our Computer part of the school website which is also below:
We also published our Spring Haikus in English and have now started our fraction units for both Year 3 and Year 4.
I wish you a happy, safe and fun half term.

Hello
We have had a fun and exciting week with the children particularly enthused about their English poetry unit - Haiku poems. These follow a strict 3 line, 5-7-5 syllable pattern and we have been happily clapping to work out which words about Spring we can use to fit the pattern. The children were fascinated to also learn about blossoms, tree buds and catkins. The children have said they still find using apostrophes for possession tricky so I have attached a link below in case your child asks you for further help at home.
Year 3 and 4 English Apostrophes
In Science, we used petri dishes to look at different soil types up close in detail and learnt why soil is so importance to humanity. In DT we have made our final designs ready for bread making next week!
In Maths we have been measuring and I don't think there is anything left in the classroom that has gone unmeasured! Year 3 have focussed on equivalent measures e.g 10mm=1cm, cm=m etc and Year 4 applying that knowledge to calculate perimeters (see links below).
In Computing we have finished our unit about how to stay safe online and be a good digital citizen. A few reminders for parents to support your child at home when online are below with more to follow next week.
- Year 4 residential - thank you to all of those who could attend our meeting on Thursday after school. All of the links and information shared is below. We have been asked questions about packed food mostly. On the Tuesday we go, please provide your child with a packed lunch that they will eat on arrival at the centre. If you need school to provide one as part of the Free School Meals initiative, please contact school as soon as possible so we can arrange it. All other meals will be provided by school during the residential. Please return the final medical confirmation letter handed out last night as soon as possible please (even if it's for e.g Calpol etc). If you need another copy - please ask the office who will provide you a copy. Thank you.
Apologies if you received a letter with an incorrect date on - I've attached the correct dated letter below.
Have a lovely weekend
