Weekly Update 10.11.23

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hello,

Maple Tree Class have had a great start to the half-term. The children have been busy reading some biographies as they will shortly be writing a biography of their own about a very important Victorian person. In maths, my group continue to work on their fractions knowledge by adding and subtracting fractions and converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and mixed numbers into improper fractions. A secure times tables knowledge is vital for this; continued practise of all the times tables and their associated division facts should continue throughout Year 6. Miss Bairstow's maths group have been working on identifying square and cube numbers.

As part of our MindMate PSHE curriculum we discussed how to recognise an unhealthy relationship, how this may affect individuals and who to talk to if needed. As always, the children were able to demonstrate a good understanding of the issues and how to deal with them.

A great start to the half-term!

Weekly Update 27.10.23

Hi,

The half-term holidays have arrived and I hope you are all looking forward to some fun activities over the next week. Maple Tree Class have had a fantastic start to Year 6. The children have shown great maturity in their approach to their learning and all the team in Year 6 have been really impressed.

This week, the children completed their poetry writing. They have shown great imagination with their onamatopoeic sounds.

We were hoping to celebrate the end of our UKS2 hockey unit with an outside mini tournament on Thursday. Unfortunately, the weather conspired against us and we had to make some adjustments so Sam brilliantly led an inside tournament where the children competed for house points. Everyone had great fun. We are hoping to do another tournament next half-term.

   Enjoy the holidays!

Mrs Trotter

Weekly Update 20.10.23

Hi,

An extremely busy week! It has been lovely to meet all the parents of the children in the class and share the fantastic start the children have made to the year. They are a great class and have settled well into the Year 6 routines.

I have included some photos of the fantastic diary entries that the children wrote in the role of a Victorian school child. Some of this writing is currently on display in  the school corridor and in the classroom.

We are now working on an onamatopoeic poem linked to the sounds of Armley Mills.

In maths, my group are working on simplifying and finding equivalent fractions. This is a big maths topic and will carry on into the next half-term leading up to Christmas.

Have a lovely weekend. Hopefully, it's not too soggy!

Mrs Trotter
