Weekly Update 27.1.23

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hello!

Maple Tree are really enjoying their rainforests topic this half term and have been planning some rainforest inspired poetry this week! The children have been learning different figurative language meanings and how these are used. We are excited to write our poems next week and hopefully publish and share them here too!

In maths, my group have completed their lessons on decimals and are continuing measurement lessons with Mr Spence. Miss Bairstow's group have come to the end of their unit on fractions.

In PSHE, we discussed what bullying is and how it can be identified. The children listened to different scenarios and decided which could be considered to be  bullying and which were one off disagreements or arguments. The discussion continued as we learned about cyberbullying. We will continue to talk about these matters in class throughout the year.

Finally, a reminder about our plans for World Book Day which is coming up in March. We recently sent a letter to all parents detailing our plans to hold a decorate a t shirt theme for the first time. Please see below. We kindly ask that all financial contributions are made by next Thursday (Thursday 2nd February) to allow us an appropriate length of time to order t shirts and the resources required to decorate them (and of course to give the children chance to decorate them before WBD!). We have received some queries this week regarding sizing for t shirts - please note all children will receive an oversized t shirt as this will give them much more space for their book cover design and ensure every child in school has a suitable t shirt to wear.

Enjoy the weekend

Weekly Update 20.1.23

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hello,

This week Maple Tree class have been completing their report writing on the layers of the rainforest. The children have used a range of technical vocabulary and have published their completed pieces (photos next week). In addition, the class have been using the ipads to research other biomes and completing a fact file on these.

Despite the chilly conditions this week, the children have enjoyed developing their football skills with Jamie from Leeds United Foundation. Hand ball is also proving to be a firm favourite sport of Maple Tree Class.

In maths, consolidating knowledge of decimals continues in my maths group whilst Miss Bairstow's group has been working on fractions.

We have also been enjoying the exciting adventure story 'The Explorer'. This is helping to support our Rainforests topic and will provide some great ideas when we write adventure stories later this term.

Keep warm this weekend!

Weekly Update 13.1.23

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hi,

Maple Tree Class have enjoyed learning more about rainforests this week and adding to the vocabulary they will use in their non-chronological report. Next week, we are hoping to make rainforest biomes with the plastic bottles that have been collected.

In maths, my group is working on understanding decimals to three places and converting units of measurement.

Appointments for parents' evening can now be booked on the online system. I am looking forward to speaking to parents and carers and sharing the progress children have been making. Please can Y6 children also attend the meeting as we find it is helpful for them to part of this conversation at this point in the year.

Have a great weekend.

Mrs Trotter
