Hello!
Ash Tree are really enjoying their rainforests topic this half term and have been planning some rainforest inspired poetry this week! We are excited to write our poems next week and hopefully publish and share them here too!
In maths, Mrs Trotter's group have been learning about decimals and Miss Bairstow's group have come to the end of their unit on fractions.
Year 5 enjoyed an extra singing practise this week as they begin learning songs for the upcoming performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. More details will follow about this in due course...
Finally, a reminder about our plans for World Book Day which is coming up in March. We recently sent a letter to all parents detailing our plans to hold a decorate a t shirt theme for the first time. Please see below. We kindly ask that all financial contributions are made by next Thursday (Thursday 2nd February) to allow us an appropriate length of time to order t shirts and the resources required to decorate them (and of course to give the children chance to decorate them before WBD!). We have received some queries this week regarding sizing for t shirts - please note all children will receive an oversized t shirt as this will give them much more space for their book cover design and ensure every child in school has a suitable t shirt to wear.
Have a great weekend!
Miss Bairstow :)

Hi,
This week in English we have finishing writing our information texts about the different layers in the rainforest. We had some excellent handwriting in Ash and are so excited to display our work.

Have a good weekend and remember not to come to school on Monday!

Hi,
This week in English we have been writing our information texts about the different layers in the rainforest. I have been so impressed with the research Ash tree conducted and the amazing information they have included in their reports.
In maths, Mrs Trotter's group have been learning about decimals and Miss Bairstow's group have been continuing with their lessons on fractions.
On Tuesday, several members of Ash took part in a Year 5/6 athletics event at Leeds Trinity University and both Mr Spence and Mr Cooke said how well they represented the school. We are very proud of them all!
Have a good weekend!

Weekly Update 6.1.22

Hello and welcome back!
Although we have had a slightly shorter week this week, we have made a great start to the new term and got stuck into our new topic "Rainforests". Ash Tree have been so enthusiastic when discussing our new topic and I am sure will produce some excellent pieces of work linked to this fascinating topic.
So far, we have started researching and planning a non-fiction piece of writing about the different layers of the rainforest, reading our new guided reading text (The Explorer by Katherine Rundell), and completed our first topic lesson about what we know already and learning some topic specific vocabulary.
Next week we are hoping to make our own rainforest biomes so please send any empty/washed out plastic bottles into school ASAP. The bigger the better for this project! A 2 litre coke/lemonade bottle is ideal!
In maths, all children have been continuing to learn about fractions.
Before the holidays, all children in UKS2 were set an optional homework challenge and given a recipe book featuring WW2 inspired rationed recipes. They were encouraged to complete as many of the 11 recipes as possible and today we revealed the overall winner in assembly! Max completed all 11 wartime recipes plus a twelfth WW2 recipe of his own choice. For Max's fantastic effort and enthusiasm he won a (non rationed!) Percy Pig blondie baking kit. Well done Max!
Have a good weekend.

Hi,
What a busy end to the half term! This week we performed our WW2 Christmas assembly to parents, made Christmas cards and had our Christmas party!
We are incredibly proud of all the hard work all the children have put in this term and especially this week.
Get some well deserved rest over the Christmas break and I look forward to seeing you all in January recharged and ready for a new term!
