Hi,
We had a slightly shorter this week due to the teacher training day. I hope you all enjoy your long weekend!
We enjoyed finishing our artwork this week for the ALPT art exhibition. I hope some of you are able to visit! Some Year 5's will be visiting next week with Mrs Millen.
Next week is a busy week for Year 5 as some members of book club will be attending an event at Horsforth Ballroom with me as part of Leeds Book Awards.
Year 6 have also been busy as they have started practising for their production now parts have been allocated!
We have an exciting few weeks ahead!

Hi,
This week we have been feeling the heat upstairs in Ash Tree! Please make sure if this lovely weather continues your child has a named water bottle in school every day and any other things they may need like suncream/hat.
We enjoyed finishing our leaflets in English and publishing them with some beautiful illustrations.
In maths, Mrs Trotter's group have been problem solving and completing a White Rose maths Year 6 project called "The Bakery". Miss Bairstow's group have been measuring angles by learning how to use a protractor correctly.
In science on Thursday we continued learning about the heart and its function by completing a heart rate experiment. The children worked in pairs to take their resting pulse rate and then one partner did 2 minutes of exercise and they measured their pulse rate again with the other partner working out the BPM (beats per minute) to see how exercise affected heart rate.
In other news... Year 6 are very excited for their first "Grow a Fiver" market day on Monday. I am excited to see their projects and if they make good entrepreneurs! And some children in Year 5 are thrilled to have started Year 6 book club early this year and received their first book on Tuesday! In order for the club to run successfully, please make sure if your child has a book they take good care of it and it is always in school.
Enjoy the weekend!

Hi,
This week we have been busy finishing writing our persuasive leaflets for either Peat Rigg or Yeadon Tarn.
In maths, Mrs Trotter's group have been creating their own Archimedean spirals and baravelle spirals. Miss Bairstow's group have been learning about the different types of angles and estimating their size.
On Friday, following on from our science lesson before half term about the heart, Ash completed a science experiment with Mr Spence where they made "magnified blood" complete with representations of white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets.
Y6 reminder - if you have not yet returned Bikeability/Grow a Fiver letters please return these on Monday.
Have a good weekend and enjoy the sunshine - it looks like it is (finally) here to stay into next week so please make sure your child remembers their water bottle everyday next week along with any other sun protection they may need e.g. suncream/hat.

Hi,
This week in English we have been writing persuasive leaflets. The majority of Year 6 have been writing about Peat Rigg and everyone else has been writing about Yeadon Tarn. I was really impressed with the start we made with these this week and am looking forward to seeing the finished products!
In maths, Mrs Trotter's group have been primarily focusing on some transition maths activities to prepare them for Year 7 and my group have started a new unit on shape.
We had a great art lesson this week following on from our artist visit last week. We were drawing birds using coloured pencils and particularly focused on developing our use of sketchbooks. We are hoping to apply all the new skills we learnt and practised this week into creating some super final pieces to display around school.
Here are some examples of our work in sketchbooks from this week.

Hi,
This week Ash Tree have had a very exciting (and creative!) week.
Firstly, we had a visit from a local artist on Tuesday morning who helped us to start our new art unit - Wildlife (Birds). He helped us develop our skills drawing birds and feathers in pencil and also shared some of his own artwork with us for inspiration! We are looking forward to applying what we learnt to the rest of our artwork this term.
Later in the week we also finished our DT automata animals project. Our design brief was to create a collection of appealing moving mechanical models (automata animals) that will captivate people's interest in endangered animals. I think we achieved this very well! If you would like to see our models in more detail click here.
The Year 6 Leavers' Hoodies are now available to order from PC Sports . Please click on the link below.
Thank you to the Friends of Rufford Park for providing the funds for these. All orders need to be made by Friday 2nd June so they can be delivered to school by before the end of June.
Have a good weekend.
