Weekly Update 17.12.21

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hello!

We have made it to the end of a very busy term and ended with a very very busy week!

Year 5/6 have been involved in not one, not two but four performances of The Snow Queen this week. The Year 5's made excellent ice sprites and robbers and the Year 6 choir did a super job of welcoming the audience.

We have been creative in the classroom this week and the children have made some beautiful Christmas cards and calendars.

We had a great Christmas party on Wednesday and all looked festive in our Christmas jumpers today!

Merry Christmas from Ash Tree!

The children have worked incredibly hard this term and we are so impressed with the progress they have made so far. We would like to thank you for all of your help and support and for all of the kind gifts we have received.

Have a great Christmas holidays and see you in the new year! :)

Weekly Update 10.12.21

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hello!

We have had another busy, busy week in Year 5/6!

On Tuesday, we enjoyed watching the KS1 dress rehearsal and Year 5 have been attending more rehearsals for their part in the KS2 performance of The Snow Queen. If your child has not yet brought in a costume for the performance please see the notes below for ideas. Costumes must be in school on Monday for the dress rehearsal.

In our maths lessons this week, we have been addressing misconceptions highlighted by our recent assessments and recapping some basic skills.

In English, we have been completing a piece of independent writing based on the Anthony Browne book, The Tunnel. I have enjoyed reading the stories and seeing where the different tunnels led!

Have a great weekend and see you on Monday for our final week of Autumn term!

Miss Bairstow :)

Weekly Update 3.12.21

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hi,

This week Ash Tree have been working extremely hard and completing some assessments so that we can see how much progress they have made this year. We are incredibly proud of all the Year 5's and 6's and all the effort they have put into this work.

We were very lucky to have Mr Smith back with us again on Wednesday morning and the children completed another science investigation. This time the focus was buoyancy.

Year 5's will need to start bringing in their costumes for the Christmas performance next week. Please ensure they come in a named bag.

Have a great weekend!

Weekly Update 26.11.21

Hi,

This week in English we have been finishing setting descriptions of a Victorian street scene. The children have worked hard to improve this piece of writing and to make sure they chose a wide range of ambitious vocabulary.

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been learning about perimeter and Mrs Trotter's groups have been learning how to multiply fractions.

The highlight of our week was spending a morning with Mr Smith (who retired earlier this year!) as he came in to do an exciting science experiment with us. We learnt about friction as part of our work on forces and tested different surfaces to find out which created the most friction.

Remember the Rufford Park Christmas fayre is on Saturday from 12pm - 2pm. Thank you for all of your kind donations towards this event.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the fayre!

Weekly Update 18.11.21

Hi,

This week in maths, my group have been learning how to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000. Mrs Trotter's groups have been adding and subtracting mixed numbers and improper fractions.

In English, we have been working on our descriptive writing skills and building up to writing a setting description of a Victorian street. We have focussed on choosing ambitious vocabulary and thought of a range of synonyms for boring adjectives and created a range of expanded noun phrases with prepositional phrases.

We ended our slightly shorter week in school with an exciting day for Children in Need. Thank you to everyone who came in non-uniform and donated £1 to help us cover Pudsey Bear and raise funds for a great cause.

Have a great long weekend!

Miss Bairstow
