Ash Tree Class Blog

Weekly Update 19.9.25

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hi,

This week in Ash Tree Class the children have been developing their writing skills by writing in role based on a character from the class novel 'Street Child'. They used some fantastic descriptive language and particularly enjoyed writing about the more unpleasant character Mr Spink!

In maths, we are continuing to consolidate knowledge on place value. In preparation for our class trip to Armley Mills next week the children have been learning about how different the lives of rich and poor Victorians were. We are looking forward to stepping back in time next week.

Children will need to bring a packed lunch on the day of their trip Year 5 Thursday 25th September and Year 6 Friday 26th September (please do not bring food containing nuts as we do have children with severe allergies, and no glass bottles). If you are entitled to free school meals and would like school to provide a packed lunch, please contact the school office.

Weekly Update 12.9.25

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hello,

Another super week in Ash Tree Class.

We continued to recap on various aspects of grammar in preparation for our first extended piece of writing. In maths, place value is the focus for the next few weeks.

To launch the Victorians history topic the class enjoyed watching some Horrible Histories. We discussed the local philanthropist Sir Titus Salt and were amazed by the many inventions from the Victorian era. Ask your child how many they can remember? In PE, hockey skills are being developed and we managed to enjoy an outside lesson before the heavens opened on Thursday afternoon.

In the next few weeks, we will start our Design and Technology project on structures. Please could kitchen roll inners be collected and brought into school to help with this project. We will need lots!

We have also discussed the forthcoming trip to Armley Mills ( Year 5 - Thursday 25th September and Year 6 - Friday 26th September) and Victorian costume possibilities that are easily adapted from our school uniform.

BOYS: school shoes, dark trousers (school trousers are perfect), white shirt and a waistcoat (if they have one)

GIRLS: school shoes, dark skirt, long socks/dark tights, hair tied back with ribbons or plaits/ringlets

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Trotter

Hello,

Ash Tree Class have had a fantastic start to the year. The children have quickly engaged in their learning and settled into new routines.

To complete the week, UKS2 enjoyed a Year 5 and Year 6 rounders match.
