Hello everyone,
This week, in our writing, we have been learning all about and researching additional facts about Boudicca, who will be the subject of our biography pieces. The children have really enjoyed learning about her and have made a start with writing their pieces after finishing their planning.
In maths, we have been focusing on word problems for addition and subtraction. The children have been identifying the key information in those word problems and using their understanding of key vocabulary to help them identify which maths operation they need to use.
In computing, the children have been learning all about the different key components that make up a computer network. They then used what they had learnt and identified different components used for the school network and where those components can be found within the school.
Have a fantastic week off and stay safe!

Hello everyone,
This week, in our writing, we have started our work on biographies. We have been reading a range of different biographies about different people and identifying the features that go in them. We have also been practising using third person pronouns in sentences about the people who we had been reading about.
In maths, we have continued with addition and subtraction. We have focused on using efficient subtraction and using checking strategies.
In history, we have been looking at the chronology of events in Roman Britain, placing them onto a timeline and discussing the different events and how they are linked with one another and how they affected other events.
It was lovely to meet all the parents during parents’ evening.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou

Hello everyone,
This week, in maths we have been focusing on using column subtraction (exchanging tens, hundreds and thousands). The children have done fantastic with this and it’s been great to see how much more confident they are with it. It’s also been great to see children rising to the challenge of using the inverse operation to check their answers.
In our reading, we have read the ninth and tenth chapters of The Thieves of Ostia. The children are really enjoying and have already started making predictions about who committed the crime. We have also continued reading The Boy in the Dress as our story time book, which the children are also really enjoying.
In our writing, the children have worked extremely hard on their recounts about a day in the life of a Roman soldier (inspired by their trip to Murton Park) and have produced some super pieces of writing. They have edited their pieces and they are in the process of publishing them.
In art, the European artist we were looking at this week was Rembrandt, specifically focusing on his use of dark and light areas in his portraits. In relation to this aspect of his art, the children were tasked with creating portrait of their table partners using a combination of observation, shading, smudging and rubbing out. This was a challenging lesson, however, the children worked really hard, listened to the step-by-step process and produced some lovely pieces of work that incorporate light and dark portions of the face.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou
