Hello!

We have had a really nice final week in Lime Tree :)

Last week the children created Stick Man information posters all about Yeadon. The children got to share these with the children in Cherry Tree. We also did the same activity with our DT moving pictures. The children were able to evaluate each others work by saying what they liked about the pictures.

In Science we reviewed our 'Keeping Plants Healthy' experiment and found that the plant which we had predicted to survive the best did and it was the one on the windowsill with light and water.

In Maths we finished our position and direction work by going outside and completing a challenge in pairs which was all about turns.

Over this half term we have been learning the poem 'Here is the Seed' by John Foster. This is a video of the Poem With Actions

Today we have made some lovely Easter cards and the children have taken part in the Egg Scramble!

I hope you all have a lovely break and I look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 15th April.

Hello!

With only 1 week to go until the Easter holidays we have been working very hard in Lime Tree.

In Maths we have started a new topic all about position and direction. Year 1 have been describing turns using the language - half, quarter, full, anticlockwise and clockwise. Year 2 have been describing movement and position using the language - left, right, turn, forwards, backwards, above, below and between.

In English we have used our imagination to take Stick Man on a journey around Yeadon. We have then gathered ideas to create an information poster all about Yeadon. The children have used some great persuasive language to try entice visitors to come to Yeadon.

We have finished our 'Yeadon Explorers' Topic by making our own comparison of Tulum and Yeadon. The children had to think about the human and physical features of both areas and think about what is the same and what is different. They also had to answer the question - Where would you rather live?

Have a lovely weekend.

Hello!

What a busy week it has been...

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Parent Meetings this week. I hope you enjoyed seeing some of your children's work and seeing just how hard they are working in Lime Tree. Everyone has made great progress since the beginning of the year. A big thank you from me for making the effort to come along.

We have had some special visitors this week. On Monday we had a lady called Jane come and deliver a PSHE workshop which was all about the importance of keeping healthy and looking after ourselves by - eating a balanced diet, drinking water, breathing oxygen, doing exercise and getting plenty of sleep every night. The children engaged really well and had lots of great ideas to contribute on how to look after our bodies.

Today we have had the author Caryl Hart come in and share some of her wonderful stories. She even brought one of her scary friends - Meet the T-REX!!!

Our new focus text is 'Stick Man' and this week we have been sequencing and retelling the story. To help us we thought it was only right we make our very own Stick Man! I am sure you will agree that they look fantastic :)

Have a lovely weekend.

Hello!

We have had another lovely week in Lime. The highlight of the week has definitely been 'World Book Day'.

It was amazing to have so many varied inspirational people come through the classroom door and nearly everyone remembered to bring in their 'Little People, Big Dreams' thought bubbles to explain why they had chosen that person or character. As World Book Day is all about reading and sharing books we played some book themed games such as a story scavenger hunt and a story quiz. Most importantly we read LOTS of books! Please continue to reinforce the important message of 'World Book Day' at home with your children. Encourage them to choose to read for pleasure and read lots of stories to them too :) We also have an author coming in to visit us on Friday 15th which is very exciting!

Just a little reminder that parents evening is taking place next week on Monday 11th and Wednesday 13th.

Have a lovely weekend.

Hello!

Another busy week in Lime Tree as we end on the start of Spring :)

In Science we set up a little investigation to answer an enquiry question - 'What do plants need to stay healthy?' The children learnt that plants need the right 'conditions' to stay healthy so to check this we put four plants in different parts of the classroom and we will also look after them differently. We made predictions about what will happen to each plant and will see if these are correct when we revisit the investigation in 2 weeks.

On Wednesday we had a special visit from a man called James Ketchell who is an adventurer and motivational speaker. He spoke to the children about some of the adventures he has been on and how important it is to have goals and to always try your best in everything that you do.

As part of our PSHE learning we read a lovely story called 'Have You Filled a Bucket Today?'. It encourages children to fill each others imaginary buckets with kindness and love. We practised doing this by writing nice messages in each others buckets (these were sent home). Here is the link if you would like to share this story at home too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEg38zCOMgk

We finished the week with a very exciting Maths lesson. Our new focus is all about fractions. We have been focusing on what a half is and today introduced a quarter. Children made their own piece of toast and cut it in to halves and then quarters (linking to real life fractions). The children loved this activity, especially the eating part!

Have a lovely weekend.
