Weekly Update 07.10.22

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog

Hello!

This week we finally put the shoeboxes to use and made our minibeast habitats. This was definitely our favourite lesson of the week! The children have some finishing touches to do next week. Once complete, their colourful clay minibeasts will have a home and I will upload some pictures of the final result.

In Maths Year 1 have been looking at using a ‘part-whole’ model to split numbers in to parts and how the part-whole model can also be used for addition. In Year 2 the children have progressed on to number bonds to 10 and fact families.

In English we have continued with our 'What the Ladybird Heard' writing. Today the children retold the story after lots of story mapping with actions. I can already see my 'WOW Work!' wall is going to be full of amazing writing!

We will be electing our School Council next week. If your child would like to stand as the Lime Tree Class representative they need to make a poster about why the class should vote for them and why they would be a good school council representative. Their poster needs to be ready to share in class on Thursday 13th October. Hopefully we get lots of posters!

I look forward to seeing you all at Parents' Evening next week and hope you have a fantastic weekend.

Weekly Update 30.09.22

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog

Hello!

We have had another super week of learning in Lime Tree class.

In English this week we started a new focus text 'What the Ladybird Heard'.  The children have been role playing, hot seating and thought tracking to support their writing focusses.

In Maths children have been comparing numbers and objects using mathematical vocabulary; greater than, less than and equal to.

As Autumn is now well underway we seized the opportunity to go on a woodland walk to collect natural objects, that we then used to create Andy Goldsworthy inspired nature sculptures.

Thank you to those of you who have already brought in a shoebox for the D&T project. If you haven't yet, please bring them in on Monday morning.

Have a lovely weekend.

Weekly Update 23.09.22

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog

A slightly shorter week for us but it has still been a very busy week, as they always are!

I am continually impressed with the children's attitude to school and learning. We are now definitely a team in Lime Tree class and it is great to see new friendships and groups blossoming amongst the children.

We have continued with our Owl Babies writing, focusing on setting descriptions this week and again we have had some super star writers! In Maths all the children are working on place value. In Year 1 we are trying to really solidify understanding and counting of numbers up to 10 and in Year 2 the children are progressing on to numbers up to 100.

I'm sure you have all noticed the new trim trail on our playground - the children are loving this new addition at our playtimes.

In Art we carried on with our Nature Sculptures focus and have been doing observational drawings of flowers, rocks, sticks, shells and pinecones. The mini models we made last week are now on display for the whole school to see!

Before the end of the half term, the children will be using shoe boxes to create a 'Shoebox Habitat' as part of their D&T project. Please could you send your child in with a shoe box before the week beginning 3rd October (if you have more than one, the extra would be much appreciated).

Have a lovely weekend.

Weekly Update 16.09.22

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog

Week 2 down and what a wonderful week it has been in Lime Tree class. All the children have settled in really well and seem very happy in our new class!

This week we started our 'Nature Sculptures' focus in Art and we made some mini models using clay inspired by British nature and wildlife. Hopefully you spotted them on our windowsill but if not please see the photo below of all our beautiful creations.

We have also been doing some descriptive writing about The Owl Babies, Percy, Sarah and Bill. The children have absolutely blown my socks off with the quality of this work and a few have been put on to our 'WOW Work' wall in the classroom.

Thank you to everyone for already starting with lots of home reading; it is great to see all the children so enthusiastic about reading!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend and I will see you bright and early on Tuesday morning.

Weekly Update 09.09.22

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog

Welcome to the first blog of the year!

What a fantastic start to the new school year we have had in Lime Tree Class! All the children have come back full of positivity and enthusiasm

Most of our week has been spent getting to know one another and used to our new classroom and our new classroom routines. Thank you to everyone for returning their 'all about me bag'. This was a lovely opportunity for children to share with the class what is special and important to them outside of school. We have also done a lot of writing about ourselves and The Colour Monster (this weeks focus text).

I have updated the class web page and attached the Autumn term overview so please remember to look at this for more information about routines and what we will be learning in Year 1/2.

Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to the rest of our year together.
