Weekly Update 27.11.20

Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Willow Tree Class Blog 2020-2021

This week, the children have started working on Multiplication and Division. We have been focusing on identifying equal groups and using arrays to represent different calculations.

In Literacy, the children have finished writing their non-chronological reports about the Roman invasion of Britain. They have worked incredibly hard on them and have just finished editing them today.

We have continued reading our class novel, The Iron Man. The children showed off their excellent dictionary skills when using them to identify the meaning of some tricky vocabulary that appears in the book.

This week, in Maths, the children have been using everything that they have learnt in addition and subtraction to help them solve addition and subtraction reasoning problems.

The children have continued learning more about the Roman Empire and the invasion of Britain, focusing on Hadrian's Wall.  They also created some fantastic descriptive work, which focused on Queen Boudicca and her revolt against the Romans.

We have continued reading The Iron Man and are currently on the third chapter As a class, we have started discussing similes, what they are and how Ted Hughes uses them throughout the book.

As part of Anti-Bullying week, the children have made some lovely posters, highlighting what bullying is, what the appropriate actions are to stopping it and how we can be kind to one another.

We have continued reading The Iron Man and are currently on the second chapter. As a class, we have discussed what we like, what we dislike and the questions that we have about the story so far.

Using Purple Mash, the children also created some lovely poppy themed art for Remembrance Day.

The children also had the opportunity to play on the new trim trail in the KS2 playground, which they absolutely loved.

We have also started reading our exciting new class novel, The Iron Man.

As part of our writing, we have been reading the narrative poem 'Chocolate Cake' by Michael Rosen. The children have really enjoyed reading it and have rewritten the story to include themselves within it.

As part of the P.E  curriculum, the children have started dance and have already started showing some of their fantastic moves.
