Richard III
West Yorkshire Playhouse, July 2016

Year 4 had the rare privilege of performing Richard III on the West Yorkshire Playhouse's spectacular Quarry Stage. The Primary Players Shakespeare Festival was a unique collaboration with over 200 children from schools across Leeds. Our young actors received expert weekly training from Playhouse staff, as well as a free after-school Drama Club.

‘I was so proud of Year 4! What an incredible bunch of young people – it was a privilege to be given the opportunity to get to
know them and work creatively together.’

Aoibheann Kelly
Creative Education Manager, West Yorkshire Playhouse

Our favourite memories... by Year 4

ROSA: Backstage when Molly started a group hug and we all piled in and put our hands in the middle. Then we lifted them up and shouted ‘RUFFORD PARK’!
KARYS: Getting everything right for the first time in rehearsals.
JAMES: Meeting Aoibheann and Jo for the first time and finding out what parts we had.
JESSICA: Watching the film of us rehearsing in the hall. It was hilarious!
EMMA: Getting such a big clap at the end. It’s a great feeling inside.
IMOGEN: Feeling so proud to hear the applause. The nerves make you do a brilliant performance.
TJ: I loved sitting in the huge auditorium during the tech rehearsal. Primary Players is the BEST!
ELLIE: Arriving at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and seeing how big the stage was.
DANIEL: Meeting the directors and actors who work at the Playhouse, like Aoibheann
and James.
ADAM: Meeting children from different schools.
LUKE H: Taking part in the big battle at the end.
LILY: Performing on one of the biggest stages in Leeds, and getting to keep our costume. It was amazing!
MOLLY: During lunch when we all started singing ‘Bob the Builder’. It was so funny!
TOM: The phenomenal atmosphere when we went on stage for the first time. It’s an amazing theatre.
