Weekly Update 12.11.21

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hi,

In English this week we have been working extremely hard to finish our reports on Victorian workhouses. We learnt lots and it linked in well to our guided reading text, Street Child.

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been learning about prime, square and cube numbers. Mrs Trotter's groups have continued their work on fractions with a focus on mixed numbers.

Cross country club is starting on Wednesday lunchtime so please make sure your child brings appropriate footwear to change into and comes to school in their P.E kit if they have returned a slip for this.

Have a good weekend.

Miss Bairstow

Weekly Update 5.11.21

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a relaxing half term and managed to have some fun! Ash Tree have come back with a fantastic attitude and have worked hard this week.

In English, we have been researching Victorian workhouses and presenting our findings by writing non-chronological reports.

In Maths, Miss Bairstow's group have started a new unit on multiplication and division. This week we have focused on identifying multiples, factors and prime numbers as this will help us with our learning throughout the unit. Please remember the expectation is for children to know all of their times table facts by the end of Year 4. If your child can't confidently recall their times tables yet, please encourage them to practise regularly at home.

Mrs Trotter's groups have also started a new unit this week on fractions.

We had some fun on Thursday and Friday this week completing a science experiment to learn more about air resistance. In pairs, the children made 3 parachutes and changed one variable e.g. size of parachute, length of string, shape of parachute. They had to ensure all other variables stayed the same to make it a fair test. We then tested the parachutes to see which design fell the slowest when dropped from a height to see which was the safest parachute.

Stay safe and have fun this weekend if you attend any bonfire/firework displays!

Hi!

What a busy half term it has been! It has been lovely to get to know the new members of Ash Tree over the last 7 weeks and see how hard they have been working.

We completed our first corridor display this week to showcase some of our excellent writing over the half term and have had some compliments already on the super work!

I hope you all have a lovely half term and have a well deserved rest!

See you soon!

Miss Bairstow
