Weekly Update 24.2.23

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hello!

We have had a great first week back - I hope you all had a lovely half term break.

Before half term, we were writing poetry inspired by the layers of the rainforest and I was so impressed by the children's work that we have updated our class corridor display to showcase our wonderful work. Look out for this if you are in school over the next few months! Here are a few examples of our beautifully presented poems.

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have completed their second unit on fractions this year and are excited to be moving on to a new challenge - decimals and percentages. Mrs Trotter's group have been learning about percentages.

Y6 ONLY - A letter went out this week about a meeting regarding our upcoming residential to Peat Rigg. This will be held on Tuesday 14th March straight after school in Year 6 Maple. There will also be more information coming home in the next few weeks such as kit lists etc. If you have any questions/would like more information about this trip please come to the meeting or email your child's class teacher via the class email address.

Finally, a note about homework. We have noticed a decline in recent weeks in the number of Year 6's returning homework. Homework goes home on a Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. Homework is differentiated so all children can access it independently and is directly linked to objectives we have taught in school that week. It is a good opportunity to see what your child has been learning in school and how you can support them with this. Each child receives only one piece of maths and one piece of grammar, and is encouraged to read as much as possible and practise their spellings by completing a word search. Encouraging your child to complete these few homework tasks now will help prepare them for September when they start secondary school.

Have a good weekend.

Miss Bairstow

Weekly Update 10.2.23

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hello,

It was nice this week to catch up with so many parents and carers during Parents' Evening. Thank you to everyone who attended. We have had a really positive year so far in Ash Tree so it was nice to share so many of their achievements with you.

In English, we have been publishing our rainforest poetry. (Pictures to follow!).

In maths, Year 6 have been completing some maths assessments and Year 5 have been learning how to multiply unit and non unit fractions by integers.

Finally, a reminder that this week is Online Safety Week. This is something that is extremely important and relevant to UKS2 as children start to use their devices and the internet with increasing independence. Further information for parents can be found here:

Have a great half term and get plenty of rest!

Weekly Update 3.2.23

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hello,

In English this week we have been using figurative language devices to write rainforest inspired poetry.

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been recapping formal methods for multiplication and division and Mrs Trotter's group have been converting fractions into decimals and vice versa.

Earlier in the week, we completed our holocaust memorial flames which we started last Friday on Holocaust Memorial Day. We felt it was important to mark this day as we learnt about WW2 in the Autumn term. Each child in UKS2 completed a flame which we have put together to create a very moving display in school.

Finally, a reminder about our plans for World Book Day which is coming up in March. We recently sent a letter to all parents detailing our plans to hold a decorate a t shirt theme for the first time. Please see below. We kindly ask that all financial contributions are made ASAP to allow us an appropriate length of time to order t shirts and the resources required to decorate them (and of course to give the children chance to decorate them before WBD!). We have received some queries this week regarding sizing for t shirts - please note all children will receive an oversized t shirt as this will give them much more space for their book cover design and ensure every child in school has a suitable t shirt to wear.

Have a good weekend!

Miss Bairstow :)
