It has been a week of visitors!

On Monday we had a 'Road Safety' trainer from Leeds Council.  He talked to the children about how to be safe on a variety of modes of transport including cars, buses and bikes. He talked about the importance of booster seats in making sure that seat belts fit on their hard parts of their bodies (hip, hip, shoulder). The children learnt about the 'Green Cross Code' and that they need to THINK, STOP, LOOK and LISTEN when crossing the road. We then went outside and crossed the road with him in pairs remembering to use the 'Green Cross Code'.

On Wednesday we had an 'African Drumming' Workshop. We were all taught how to tilt the drum and which part of our hands to use to create the best sound. We played the drums and a range of percussion instruments to a traditional West African song. I was very impressed with the children's listening and musical skills.  A great time was had by all!

In English we have continued with our story 'Handa's Surprise'.  We have been writing recounts of Handa's day in the first person. Next week we will be using the story as our poetry inspiration to write some List Poems.

Maths this week has been all about 'Money'.  We have been using coins and notes to make amounts.  The children have shown a good understanding of the coins and notes we have.  This can be a tricky concept to teach in the increasingly cashless world we now live in.

We have also continued our unit of work on 'Sculptures'.  This week we made monsters out of a range of 'bits and bobs' we had in school.  Please remember if you have any cardboard boxes to send them into school for next week.

Enjoy your weekend.
