Weekly Update 1.4.21

Posted: Apr 1, 2021 by: Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Willow Tree Class Blog 2020-2021

Hello everyone,

This week the children have been focusing on retelling the story of Stone Girl, Bone Girl, which is based on the life of Mary Anning. The focus has been around rewriting the story in chronological order, using inverted commas correctly to show when a character is speaking and using fronted adverbials at the beginning of a sentence to describe the action that follows.

We have also continued our work with Fractions, looking at how pairs of fractions make 1 whole, whilst also going through our assessment papers and going through any weaker areas that have been identified and discussing strategies as to how we would approach those questions in order to work them out.

As part of out topic, the children got into the role of Mary Anning this week and they become fossil hunters. They searched for and identified different fossils that they found and each group also placed money on the fossils that they thought were the most valuable to them as a group.

The children also completed their fantastic sketches of ammonites that they have been working on since last week and they also completed their own portraits of Mary Anning. I'm very proud of their efforts.

The children's volcanoes were all active and they finally erupted today. They absolutely loved it and it was a great way to finish the term off!

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter and get lots of rest :)

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou :)
