Hello!
We have had a lovely week in Pear Tree.
In English we have written some shape poems about a little red crab. The children have really enjoyed our poetry work and we have spent lots of time listening to different poems. Here is a great website for children's poems: https://childrens.poetryarchive.org/poem/the-seagulls/
In PHSE we met the Pantosaurus who taught us a very important lesson about how to keep ourselves and our bodies safe. The children really enjoyed listening to the song. I would encourage you to share this at home too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lL07JOGU5o
On Thursday we had a prickly visitor in school. As part of our Science unit this term we have been looking at wildlife and how we can help wildlife. A member from the 'Prickly Pigs Hedgehog Rescue' came in to tell us all about hedgehogs and the work they do to care for hedgehogs at the rescue. She even brought a baby hoglet with her called Maisy. She was very cute!
Have a lovely weekend.

Hello!
A very hot and sunny week for us in Pear Tree.
In English the children have written their own version of 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley' by creating a new plastic item that could be swallowed by a sea creature. The children have done some amazing work and really showed off their creative imaginations.
In Maths we have been consolidating 2D and 3D shapes. We have been been looking at the properties and grouping shapes based on the properties.
In Science we have been identifying different trees and flowering plants around the school grounds.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine :)

Hello!
We have had a fantastic week in Pear Tree.
The highlight of our week really has to be Sports Day. All the children should be immensely proud of their efforts during their races! Everyone showed fantastic determination and super team work. Thank you to everyone who came down and cheered the children on.
In Science we have continued with our Plants focus by planting our very own sunflower seeds and talking about what we can do to help it grow and be healthy. Some of the seeds have already started to grow!
This week we finished off our art work for the ALPT Art Exhibition which is all about David Hockney this year. This work will be displayed in a few weeks time at St Oswald's Church - more details to follow.
Have a lovely weekend.

Hello!
The first week back has gone by in a flash.
In Maths we have been partitioning numbers up to 100. We have also been comparing numbers using the greater than, less than and equal to symbols (>,<, =). As a treat for their hard work we watched an episode of Numberblocks which explains the symbols: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0blsqtz/numberblocks-series-3-blockzilla
In PSHE we have talked about the importance of resilience and not giving up even when we find things tricky. The children all had some lovely examples of when they have had to be resilient and some were even to explain how it has positively impacted them e.g. "I can now swim underwater for the whole length of the pool". Here is a song we listened to by Bruno Mars about not giving up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWp6kkz-pnQ
All the butterflies have now been released! Some had to be released in the school holidays but the ones I had left were brought back to school so the children could see them go. It was very exciting :)
Have a lovely weekend.

Hello!
Another half term has come to an end in a flash...
In English we have finished our final piece based on 'The Pirates Next Door'. The children have created a new member of the Jolly Roger family and written a description about them.
The children have been so excited about taking the boxes home that we decided we couldn't wait until after the holidays to test them so we tested them today by sending them down a washing line and with seagulls (beanbags) flying at them. The children then evaluated their lunch boxes and highlighted any improvements they could make.
The caterpillars have all now formed their chrysalises and are starting the metamorphosis process. Just in case they emerge quickly I am taking them home with me for the holidays!
Have a lovely week and I look forward to seeing you all in Summer 2 :)
