Weekly Update 14.11.25

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

Hello!

We have had a very busy week with Remembrance Day on Tuesday, Odd Socks Day for anti-bullying on Thursday and raising money for Children in Need on Friday!

In English we have been describing the setting of the island where the Wild Things live. We have used our senses to imagine the things that we might see, hear, feel and smell.

In Maths the children have been introduced to the subtraction symbol (-) and have been looking at how a part-whole model can help them solve subtraction number sentences.

In Art we focused on the work of Mark Rothko. The children explored blending red, yellow and blue paint (the primary colours) together to recreate some of his work. In PE we have been playing OAA games which is all about team work and listening skills.

The preparations for our Christmas Play have begun this week. We have started listening and practising the songs so you may hear a few new songs being sung in your homes. Our performance this year will be 'Prickly Hay'. We are all very excited :)

Polite reminder: Children are now receiving either English or Maths homework every Friday. Please make sure homework is completed and returned to school by the following Thursday so that is can be marked and a new sheet can be stuck in. Thank you to those who completed last weeks!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Cotterill

Weekly Update 07.11.25

Hello!

It was great to welcome so many smiling faces back on Monday. We have had a good week in Pear Tree.

In English this half term we are looking at Fantasy Stories. Our focus text for the next few weeks is 'Where the Wild Things Are'. This week we have been making predictions and writing a description about one of the Wild Things. The children have been using adjectives in their descriptive sentences.

In Maths we have been recapping on the various practical resources (number line, ten frame & part-whole model) that can be used when solving addition number sentences.

In Science we started our new topic all about materials. The children explored and sorted materials according to their properties.

Homework Schedule » Stanborough Primary School

Homework books will now be going home with the children every Friday. The English or Maths work must be completed and returned by the following Thursday. Thank you for your support with this :)

Have a lovely weekend.

Weekly Update 24.10.25

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

Hello!

The first half term has already come to an end. It seems to have come and gone in a flash but we have enjoyed every second of it!

Everyone has really impressed me with their Samuel Pepys writing about the Great Fire of London. There was some super use of the facts that we have learnt. In Maths we have been working on bonds to 7, 8 and 9 using numicon.

On Thursday all of KS1 enjoyed the FORP Halloween Disco and they all looked fantastic!

I hope you have a lovely half-term break and I will see you on Monday 3rd November :)

Weekly Update 17.10.25

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

Hello!

Another busy week has come to an end. It was lovely to talk to you all at Parent's Evening and let you know how well the children have settled into Pear Tree Class.

On Tuesday we had our Great Fire of London Workshop lead by forest school practitioner Sue. We recreated the events of the fire by making our very own Tudor houses from cereal boxes, scrap paper and paint. We then took them down to the field and made Pudding Lane with St Paul’s Cathedral in the centre. Sue then started a fire in Thomas Farriner’s bakery, and we watched it spread from house to house until they had all turned to ash. The children really enjoyed this immersive activity! Please see links to videos below.

London's Burning    Strong Wind

In Maths we have been working on number bonds within 10 and using practical resources such as numicon to help with addition. In English the children have been writing in first person as Samuel Pepys retelling the events of the fire.

Have a lovely weekend.

Weekly Update 10.10.25

Hello!

We have been very busy this week with more Great Fire of London learning. On Tuesday we had a special box delivered to Pear Tree Class. Inside the box was Samuel Pepys’ diary about the Great Fire of London. We read his diary entries together and talked about the Important features of a diary. We also transformed ourselves into Samuel Pepys and thought tracked how we would feel during the fire.

In Maths the children have been introduced to a part-whole model. They have been using the part-whole model and numicon to create and solve addition number sentences.

Thank you to everyone for bringing in boxes! I think we will definitely have enough for our Great Fire of London workshop which is taking place next Tuesday :)

I look forward to seeing you all at Parents' Evening next week and hope you have a fantastic weekend.
