Hello everyone,
This week, the children have been publishing their WW2 evacuee diary entries. They have worked so hard on them and they have been absolutely fantastic to read! Well done!
In maths, we have moved onto our addition and subtraction unit and have been focusing on adding and subtracting numbers with more than 4 digits and with exchanges as well as focusing on one and two step word problems that involve both as well.
In reading, we have continued with reading the ninth chapter of Goodnight Mister Tom, focused on comprehension work using a range of different reading skills based around the chapter. We also focused on reading a text which was all about rationing and using that to answer a range of comprehension questions which again focused on a range of reading skills to answer those questions.
In history, we have focused on learning all about The Battle of Britain this week. The children were absolutely fascinated with it. They asked lots of great questions, watched videos and listened to interviews from people who were involved with it at the time and then they created their own mind maps of everything that they had learnt about it.
In PSHE, we were focusing on being assertive during this lesson. The children learnt all about what it means to be assertive and we had a really good discussion about situations when it would be useful to use. The children did some roleplaying in pairs where a situation between two friends required one of them to be assertive with the other. The children acted these out brilliantly and we also highlighted everything in the text which showed how well one child handled the situation and how they were assertive.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou
