Weekly Update 18.2.22

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hi,

An end to a busy half-term and week!

Year 6 have been completing a range of assessments and have shown great focus and resilience in their approach. It has been lovely to see the children's  faces when they realise the progress they have made so far this year.

The week has been completed by a film afternoon and the children are looking forward to visiting the cake sale on their way home.

Enjoy the half-term break

Weekly Update 11.2.22

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hi everyone,

We have been thinking a lot about internet safety this week as part of Safer Internet Day on Tuesday. The children discussed what personal information is not appropriate to share online and how to stay safe if playing games online. The children designed mascots that would remind those playing games how to be safe.

In English, the children have learned about the features found in newspaper reports in preparation for writing their own exciting report about an event in school.

Maths has involved converting metric measurements and in Miss Bairstow's group everyone has been busy adding and subtracting mixed numbers in fractions. Mrs Senior's group did a fantastic practical lesson involving measuring objects in school and then converting those to the most appropriate unit of measurement.

It was lovely to see so many parents and share what great work the children have been doing this week at our first face to face parents' evening in two years!

After a busy week we are ready for a restful weekend ahead of the final week before the half term holidays.

Weekly Update 4.2.22

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hi,

Lots going on in school this week.....

Firstly, thank you to everyone who participated in our "Two-sday" non-uniform fundraiser on Wednesday (2.2.22!) and brought in 2 coins to help raise money for school.

Our exciting D.E.A.R challenge began on Monday to celebrate National Storytelling Week. Each class were given a slot to go and ring the bell and when it sounded we literally had to "drop everything and read"! This happened once every morning and every afternoon. Each class were read to by their teacher for the sessions to encourage a love of reading aloud and sharing stories. Maple Tree class particularly enjoyed listening to 'The Boy at the Back of the Class'. We will be continuing with this story in our story sessions in the forthcoming weeks.

On Wednesday, we were visited by a storyteller who told UKS2 a gruesome traditional tale which had them hooked! They were full of questions and suggestions to help develop the story as it was told.

Finally, to finish the week, UKS2 received a visit from Dave Bunting this afternoon as part of our Mountains topic. Dave is a real life mountaineer (and luckily for us - a parent of a Y6!) who has led many expeditions - including to the Himalayas and Mount Everest! The children loved listening to him speak about his adventures and seeing all of the equipment he uses. I'm sure it will have given them lots of inspiration and ideas for the rest of the work we have planned linked to mountains!

Have a great weekend.

Mrs Trotter
