Weekly Update 18.6.21

Posted: Jun 17, 2021 by: Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog 2020-2021

Hello!

It is all systems go at the moment in UKS2!

This week, we had our first read through of the Year 6 Leavers' Production with all the Year 6's together and allocated parts. We only have a few weeks until the performance date so please ensure if your child has a speaking part that they begin practising their lines ASAP!

Whilst Year 6 were rehearsing, the Year 5's made the most of the lovely weather by completing some sketching outdoors.

We have also had a big push on our class text "Darwin's Dragons" this week. We desperately want to finish the book before the end of term so every spare moment has been spent reading! It has been lovely to discuss with the children their opinions on the book so far and how it compares to our last class text. Yesterday, we discussed similarities and differences between this text and others that we have read and it was really interesting to get the children's feedback. We also had a class vote and every single member of Ash Tree said that they are enjoying the book so far - result! It is so important we have time for these discussions about reading so if you would like to ask your child about the text over the weekend and test them on their summarising skills that would present them with a fantastic opportunity to discuss their reading with someone who hasn't read the book.

I have also noticed a great improvement in the children's writing over the last few weeks due to their super vocabulary choices linked directly to Darwin's Dragons. We are going to start including a new feature on the blog called "Word of the Week" and the first one goes to...

Ben for correct use of the word "unearthly".

In other news, all children received a letter this week about RSE. Please make sure you have read this letter and are happy with the content of the lessons.

Also, as the weather is getting warmer (finally!), please ensure your child has a water bottle in school with them everyday. We have a limited number of cups available in the classroom for emergencies but under no circumstances can the children share these.

Have a lovely weekend.
