Weekly Update 19.3.21

Posted: Mar 19, 2021 by: Mrs. Cahill (n.cahill) on: Beech Tree Class Blog 2020-21

Hello everyone,

It’s been another busy, busy, busy week in Beech Tree Class!

In our assemblies we have been learning how to develop a ‘growth mindset’ when bouncing back from problems or experiencing new challenges. We learnt about the power of the word YET (as in “I don’t know my 8 times tables… yet.”), and also watched the story of Austin’s Butterfly.

In English we’ve been enjoying ‘The Pack of Pompeii’ – set in Ancient Rome – and also ‘Stone Girl Bone Girl’, which was inspired by the life of fossil hunter Mary Anning. On Friday we focused on handwriting, paying particular attention to letter heights (tall letters should NEARLY touch the line above… short letters should be exactly half-way up).

In maths we have been finding equivalent fractions while also recapping a wide range of prior learning. Please practise any key skills you are rusty on over the weekend (not just number skills - telling time etc too!).

In Science we had a great time investigating electrical circuits!

During PE on Wednesday, we developed our skipping skills as part of the West Yorkshire Schools Games – including alternate steps, cross-over and double-skip.

On Friday we had great fun going swimming for the first time - the children had a superb time and followed the COVID rules very sensibly. Please check the letter given out this week for further information.

Have a great weekend!
