Weekly Update-30/6/23

Posted: Jun 30, 2023 by: Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Hello everyone,

This week, the children have been working on writing their alternative stories of Stone Age Boy. They have now completed them and edited them to improve the quality further. We continuously read examples together as we were working on the different sections of the story and I was very impressed by the quality of work that has been produced.

In maths, our focus has been on time, specifically working on converting between analogue time and 12 hour digital time, converting between 12 hour digital and 24 hour digital and then converting between all three. We also focused on time related word problems as well. Whilst it has been a challenge for some children, every single child has given it their best effort and the improvement from the start to the end of the week has been excellent.

In music, we have continued our unit on recorders and have moved to stage 2 now. The children have become very confident playing pieces of music that consist of the B, A and G notes and have also had a go at writing their own basic music. They were also introduced to the C note this week, which did create some challenges, however, as always, the children demonstrated great resilience when faced with a challenge. With practise, the improvement was fantastic throughout the lesson.

In science, we are continuing our unit of work on plants. This week, the focus has been on the transportation of water through plants. The children have set up an investigation to see whether water moves through a plant quicker in warmer temperatures or in colder temperatures. They all made sure that they set up their experiments fairly and have been observing them everyday to see the changes that are occurring and comparing how quickly it is happening.

In our reading, we are continuing to read our class novel (Stig of the Dump) and the children have been doing some excellent retrieval and inference work based on the chapters that we are currently reading.

That's all for now,

Mr Kyriacou :)
