20.1.23-Weekly Post

Posted: Jan 20, 2023 by: Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Hello everyone,

This week, the children published their volcano setting descriptions. We have been focusing on using the different senses to help paint a clear picture with great description. The children have also been developing their range of scientific vocabulary which they have incorporated into their descriptions and they have also focused on using good fronted adverbials to describe the action that follows.

In art, we are focusing on Jackson Pollock and have been looking at warm and cold colours. The children were then tasked with experimenting with these different warm and cold colours to create their own paintings of a volcano erupting. The children absolutely loved it and produced some beautiful pieces of work.

In computing, we were focusing on the multifunctional use of  different digital devices and we had a super discussions as a class about this. The children were then tasked with creating a digital painting which used a picture of warm and cold colours, which also relates to our art this week. The children produced some excellent pieces and we then had a discussion about the advantages of using a digital device to paint and the disadvantages in comparison to traditional painting. The children were so engaged throughout the lesson, we had some great discussions and they also produced some great digital pieces of art.

In PSHE, were focusing on a story which was related to danger and risk. We would pause at different points in the story and the children had write down what they thought the character should do next in the story, why they should say no to something, who might be affected by their actions and what they should do once they get home. The children were super during this lesson - they showed just how mature they are and we had a fantastic discussion about what the right decisions were for this character to make, why it was the correct decision and how it was keeping that character safe.

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou
