Weekly Update-25/11/21

Posted: Nov 25, 2021 by: Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Hello everyone,

This week, we have continued our work on multiplication and division and have been focusing on the 6 times tables and using the inverse operation, which the children have been using brilliantly and with greater confidence. Below are some videos of the class practising to chant their 6 times tables together with greater confidence and greater speed. Enjoy!

As part of our topic and writing work, the children have been exploring the monastery of Lindisfarne, Hadrian's Wall and an Anglo-Saxon village using Google Earth. They absolutely loved exploring these different places and this will help support their writing further.

In science, we have been focusing on the human skeleton this week, identifying why we need a skeleton, how it helps us, discussing whether all skeletons are the same or not and why that is, learning the common names for the different bones and then learning the scientific names for different bones. The children were all given a full skeleton that was cut up into separate bones, these had the scientific names for the bones on and together, in their different groups, they had to work together to place the correct bones on the correct part of one person in their group. They worked really well together and were able to navigate their way through the challenging task and all of the groups were able to place a good portion of the bones in the correct places. We then went through it together as a class and made any changes necessary to put certain bones into the correct places.

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou :)
