Weekly Update 05/11/21

Posted: Nov 4, 2021 by: Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Hello everyone,

This week, the children have started their work on newspaper reports and our reports will be focusing on the Viking attack on Lindisfarne. To start with, the children were given the opportunity to look through newspapers (in pars) and see what they could identify within them without any support. We then discussed what they had found within their newspapers and then began to go through the features together.

As part of our work on newspaper reports, we have also been identifying and discussing features of quotes within different reports and the children were also given the opportunity to do a bit of drama. In pairs, one took the role of either Ragnar Lodbrok (Viking leader of the attack) or Bishop Higbald (monk of Lindisfarne) and they were being interviewed by the other, who took the role of the interviewer. The children really enjoyed this and it supported their writing when writing their own quotes based on what Ragnar Lodbrok and Bishop Higbald would have said and how they would have said it.

The children have also been absolutely loving their swimming lessons each week and it is a lovely activity to look forward to throughout the week. Some children have now also achieved their 25m distance award and will receive their awards in assembly next week.

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou :)
