Weekly Update 15/10/21

Posted: Oct 14, 2021 by: Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Hello everyone,

The children completed their brilliant Murton Park recounts last week and have finished writing them up in neat. Here are some examples of their super work, which will be going on display.

This week, several children presented their school council representative posters to the class. All children involved presented very well and as a class every child voted for who they thought would be the best representative for the class. Taylor won the vote and is now the Beech Tree class representative. Well done, Taylor!

We have been focusing on column addition this week and the children have been doing so well with it, particularly when it has come to carrying and have been giving great mathematical explanations to explain what they are doing and why they are doing it when it involves carrying. We have also been focusing on word problems, identifying the language that indicates it is an addition problem and picking out the key information in order to solve it. As an end of lesson task, the children created their own wonderful word problems and made sure to include key mathematical language that should go into it. As you can see below, one problem was related to our trip to Murton Park, one was related to our class novel and one was related to TT Rockstars. All super examples of good word problems that include the correct language. We then solved these as a class.

The children have also been working on their Christmas themed artwork. They have worked really hard on them and produced some lovely pieces. Here are a few examples of their fantastic work!

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou :)
