Weekly Update-30/1/26

Posted: Jan 30, 2026 by: Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Hello everyone,

This week, we have been continuing our adventure story writing unit. We have been continuing to focus on different features that we will be using in our stories, such as fronted adverbials, similes and we have used expanded noun phrases to create a character description for their main character of their stories. We have also planned and started writing our stories with an introduction.

In maths, we are continuing our unit of work on multiplication and division. This week, we have focused on multiplying 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers using the short multiplication method. We have also been breaking down a range of word problems and using the short multiplication method to solve these problems.

In DT, as part of our Great Bread Bake Off unit, the children were doing some product analysis work. They were looking at, smelling, feeling and tasting three different types of bread. The children really enjoyed the lesson, and it created a lovely discussion amongst the class. The children also then ranked the breads that they had tried from favourite to least favourite.

In computing, we have been continuing our unit of work on desktop publishing. This week, the focus was on editing font. The children learnt all about what font is and the different ways that it can be changed. We also looked at a range of example pieces of work and discussed which pieces used the font more effectively and why. The children then went on to create their own typography pieces. They chose a silhouette shape of an animal (the choice was a cat or dog) and filled in the inside of the shape with words associated with the animal. They then changed the colour of the text, the weight of the text, the style of the writing, the size of the letters and the orientation of the words.

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou
