Weekly Update 26.5.23

Posted: May 26, 2023 by: K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Hello everyone,

We have had such a busy week getting things finished off as we approach the half term holiday!

In maths, we have looked at telling the time to o'clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to and how to use Roman numerals to tell the time in  5-minute increments!

In English, we have edited our setting descriptions and produced a final copy of them ready to display.

In science, we pretended to be the manager of a pop band who was worried about the sound level and so we investigated which materials would be the most effective at soundproofing.

On Thursday, we worked in groups to prepare strawberry smoothies as part of our DT topic, Edible Gardens. The children did a fantastic job and were then able to evaluate what went well and what they would do in the future to improve it.

There is no set homework over the half-term holiday but we do encourage that children continue to practise their times tables and, of course, keep reading regularly.

Next half term will be especially busy so here are just a few reminders of what is expected:

  • PE is on a Tuesday and Thursday and the children should come to school wearing their PE kit.
  • Times Tables tests are every Thursday and the children will find out if they have achieved this on the Friday.
  • Children should be reading at least 5 times a week and this will be checked when books are changed on a Thursday.
  • Homework is due in on a Wednesday and will not be marked if it is brought in any later. Children who do not complete their homework will do so at breaktime on Friday or during their Golden Time.
  • Breaktime snacks should be a piece of fruit or some vegetables.
  • As the weather is getting warmer, please ensure your child has appropriate sun protection. Sunscreen can be applied by your child at school but this will be at breaktime and lunchtime.

Wishing you all a lovely half term break,

Miss Simms
