Weekly Update 24.2.23

Posted: Feb 24, 2023 by: K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Welcome back everyone!

We have had a great first week back in Willow Tree Class and the children have had some very exciting learning opportunities this week.

We have started our new topic of Fantastic Fossils and began to look, in detail, at the life of the fossil hunter: Mary Anning. In guided reading we have read the first 6 chapters of our new book 'Kidnap in the Caribbean' by Lauren St John and in maths we have looked at fractions and how we can find out what fraction of a shape is shaded in.

On Friday, we started out World Book Day t-shirt designs and we will continue to work on these next week so we are ready to put these on when we come into school on Thursday.

Homework will be sent home tonight and children have been briefed about it in class as well. Over the next 5 weeks, the focus of the weekly homework will be research project about a volcano from the Ring of Fire. There will be an information sheet in the books which will give some guidance on possible ideas for how to present the project and questions that could be researched. These projects are due in on Monday 28th March but we would like children to really put their best efforts into these so please bring them into school no earlier than Wednesday 22nd March.

We will still be sending weekly spellings and either a short maths challenge or English challenge (the English will be beneficial to the research project) and expect these to be back in on Wednesday each week.

Any questions, please get in touch via the class email address,

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Simms
