Weekly Update 24.9.21

Posted: Sep 24, 2021 by: K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Hello everyone!

We have had a super exciting week here in Willow Tree Class! We went on our very first trip in Year 3 to Murton Park near York. This was a fantastic introduction to our Vikings topic and the children had a brilliant time getting involved in "all things Viking". We started the day by dressing up in Viking clothes and being given a very detailed introduction by our guide, Astrid. After this, we excitedly walked down to the Viking village that was to be our home for the day and set about completing our activities: baking bread, creating oil lamps out of clay, collecting firewood, farming the land and practicing our marching and charging skills! Things were touch and go at one point when a sneaky Anglo-Saxon invader tried to infiltrate the village but Year 3 rallied together to scare him off by showing their battle faces and shouting their battle cries! The children absolutely loved the day and they represented Rufford Park Primary School extremely well - they should be very proud of themselves!

Please head to Willow Tree Class page to see photos from the day!

Alongside our school trip, the children have had a very productive week in other areas of learning. They have begun to create a recount to describe the educational visit using fronted adverbials, adjectives and conjunctions. They have also shown a secure understanding of 10 more and 10 less than a given number and have begun to investigate what happens to a number when we find 100 more and 100 less than a given number.

Next week...

  • We will be starting our class read - "The Iron Man" by Ted Hughes - and we will be practising our Guided Reading Skills through the use of this book.
  • We will be getting our teeth into some fantastic science experiments all linking to our Vikings topic.
  • We will be finishing our work on Place Value and getting ready to move onto Addition and Subtraction.

Homework will be sent home tonight and is due back on Wednesday. Please ensure your child does each piece of work so that they are consolidating their learning and are in with the chance of receiving a Merit point. This week's homework involves reflecting on our time at Murton Park, securing our maths skills on Hit the Button and practicing our weekly spellings.

Times Table Rockstars passwords are in the front of your child's homework book, I have set it to 2s and 5s this week.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Have a restful weekend,

Miss Simms
